I assume Brands looked at the statistics and he performed well in key areas. He’s nowhere near fulfilled that promise though, and has been an awful signing overall let’s be honest. We’ll be lucky to shift him too.

He was a big talent at Arsenal but fans all said he doesn't have a football brain. He used to make impacts mainly from the bench surrounded by better attacking players, ended Walcott's arsenal career, and also didn't have to track or defend.

He finished his last season with 6 assists and was also 23. Arsenal had just bought Pepe (if I remember right) so there was no way he'd start.

I think it was a good basis to take a punt on him and for £30mill I don't think it was that huge an outlay for the age and the club he came from.

But he is pants though although I get why we took a punt.

Really? Because i was screaming noooo the day it looked like it was going through. All i saw at Arsenal is what ive seen here at Everton. This fella was on his way to QPR or brentford until Everton had a brain fart and bailed him and arsenal out.
The non tinted spec arsenal fans will tell you the truth about him. The he came through the ranks and hes one of us arsenal fans cut him slack for years for that reason alone.
He's not just awful he's here for a cushy ride aswell.
Staggering anyone thinks he was worth a punt for peanuts let alone 30m.
Abysmal business made even worse by it was always going to be. Whoever rubber stamped it. Well you have to wonder if they're fit for their job also.

I thought exactly this when we signed him - can’t recall a more muted response to a big money signing on here. Then I went to the Arsenal forums who were cock a hoop at the price they’d got for him.

Would love brands to explain how we go from bidding for zaha to ending up with iwobi - regardless of the merits of the players (and despite Zara’s less than stellar return this season he’s light years ahead of iwobi) - it’s chalk and cheese.

What was the criteria we were looking for - they share no traits whatsoever- iwobi’s another one who wants to play as a no 10 as he’s not good enough to play out wide/doesn’t like doing the dirty work like tracking back and covering his full back. His in game intelligence against Chelsea for their first goal was embarrassing.

Terrible signing and this one is definitively on brands - the fact Carlo would rather play six defenders than him last night says it all. Will be lucky to recover a third of what we’ve paid.

For his age and his "potential" especially

"Iwobi has completed more dribbles than any other Arsenal player in the Premier League this season with 43, 10 more than his nearest challenger in Alexandre Lacazette. And while his six assists may appear a modest total, he has created 33 chances, the third most in the Gunners’ squad."

"3rd most assists for an Under 23 behind Sane and Maddison."

If you want to read a whole bunch of waffle about him for Arsenal...see below.

It's not me defending him as I think he is very poor. I'm just pointing out that there was a basis to take a punt on him as the cheaper alternative to Zaha (£80million) and see if it pans out (which it hasn't).

The biggest problem is the fit. Playing wide at Arsenal and playing wide here are very different and one suits him way more. It's why I think he might be decent centrally for us, because weirdly it better compares to what playing wide for them was while he was there. But even then it isn't a perfect fit. We have to improve on this with future signings.

It is waffle mate. Those with eyes in their head over a statistician.
Scary if brands based the signing on that.

He didn't score goals at Arsenal though and thats the main reason it was a bizarre piece of recruitment. When we spend 30m on an attacker we need goals. 2 league goals in almost 2 seasons is so poor.

We needed creativity and build up play. Sigurdsson and Richarlison both scored double digit goals but added little in the other areas the year before and we bought Kean. We needed honestly what he can give but Silva preferred to not use him.

We need goals across the team which he doesnt offer. He hasn't offered many assists either. He's a talented player but isn't effective.

So disappointing. Doubt we can shift him. Will be a never ending loan I imagine to Low prem or aspiring prem team. He might get a run of games in his favourite position (which is a where?) and improve. Can’t see him being here next year

Which other Club could spend over £70M on Walcott, Tosun and Bolasie...and then try to recover the situation by loaning them out and paying wages whilst signing Iwobi for around £28M.....and then sign Josh King as cover for him to get about 11minutes since he joined?
You really couldn’t make it up.

That just reads as a puff piece put out by his agent - have you read the bit on pressing and recoveries - did he magically lose those abilities when he joined us?

Fair play for digging that information out but as has been said before sometimes you have to use your own eyes rather than being blinded by stats.
