He couldn't do it centrally against Burnley either when we were outplayed.
The first half yesterday was the same as the first half against Burnley but Villa missed chances. Which is to say despite everyone trying to blame Iwobi for that it wasn't his fault.

He was good in that first half hour. It wasn't his job to defend and isn't his fault that we didn't do it. Are you blaming the first half performance yesterday on Sigurdsson? Or was it actually the fault of the people tasked with defending who didn't do it?

I'm not blaming Iwobi for yesterday. Central midfield and Central defence are where the game was lost yesterday.

We lost against Burnley because we reshaped the whole formation to try and fit Iwobi in as a 10, and had 2 strikers as well. He created nothing and we were exposed defensively from minute 1.

The facts with Iwobi are that he doesnt offer a goal threat and he doesnt create chances or goals. He has 2 or 3 goal involvements per year and thats not even close to good enough. It's not going to work out for him here and its best for everyone for him to move on.

You realise that in your post you are pointing the finger at the manager's tactics.

It's not close to good enough if you're using him in a role that requires that to happen for him to be good. That's my whole argument here though, we're terrible in midfield with a single player in the whole squad who plays a somewhat midfield role (I'm talking about James here) who can consistently move the ball up the field and Iwobi has throughout his career shown some ability to do this. So you see where this thing should maybe go.

It won't go there, Carlo has him pigeonholed as a right wing and he is just so much not that. I have no idea if Iwobi could be useful somewhere else, I think he might be but he might not either. What I know for certain is that he's a terrible right winger and it is beyond time to stop putting him out there.

Meanwhile we'll continue to get outplayed in midfield on a weekly basis.

In the Burnley game yes, I accept that.

But Iwobi went public prior to that match saying he should be played as a 10. The manager threw down the gauntlet to the player and gave him a chance to perform. The player let him down with a mediocre performance.

At some point players need to take responsibility to perform. They love hiding behind managers and other excuses.

That's the thing though, you're blaming Iwobi for the entire team not functioning, as is Carlo, when on a personal level Iwobi did his job in the 30 minutes he was given. It isn't his fault that Allan, Davies and Gomes couldn't cover anything in midfield or that the backline crapped it. Nor is it his fault that Carlo got the setup wrong. Iwobi could have been #10 in a 4-2-3-1 and the 4-4-2 diamond isn't a joke system that can't work when played right.

As bad as fans make him out to be - he was the only player to go past a man with the ball... the juries out on him, but my, our side in midfield & at the back plus the tactics are crap..... plus Delph on as Sub ????.......

The funny thing is I actually think the ideal way for him to play isn't even about dribbling past people as much as it is just taking the space on offer in the game. You move him central or left and let him drift a bit and he's pretty good at finding a spot to get the ball and go with it.

And at a minimum he'll try to do that which again we don't have in midfield aside from James. Sigurdsson doesn't. Gomes goes back too much. Doucoure is extremely inconsistent with his level of involvement in a game.

He's a terrible footballer full stop! Carlo obviously doesn't fancy him in the middle or a No10 and I can see why.

I was watching him yesterday in the 2nd half a bit and his positional sense is just terrible. There was a time when he wasn't defending and helping Coleman out but neither was he in a position to make a run if we won the ball and occupy a Villa players thoughts as to what could happen. Just standing in no mans land he was seemingly unsure of what to do or where to go!

He can get past a man but then after that makes terrible decisions in general from what I've seen. Didn't have a horrible game vs villa but doesn't fit our team and quite honestly needs to go. We will take a big loss on him.

We have had a few ‘hand me downs’ from Arsenal over there years. Stephen Hughes still gives me nightmares :( Iwobi was poor at Arsenal and has not improved. Arsenal must be made up when Everton come knocking so they can offload their rubbish
