What baffles me is the thought process and planning that must have gone into the decision to buy him.

It must be fair (surely ?) to assume that we now have a fairly well defined concept of how we want to play, along with a definition of the attributes and skills required of each player in their respective positions to fulfil that style of play.

Iwobi plays now as he always did at Arsenal, so no surprises there at all, in terms of what we were buying.

Either whoever is putting the jigsaw together isn’t very good at it, or alternatively, Iwobi is the beginning of a very long project and we are yet to buy the other bits that he fits in with.
This actually goes to a big problem with our DOF-manager relationship. I can promise you Brands didn't buy him hoping Silva would play Bernard more and he didn't do it hoping Carlo would make him a right wing. That can't happen.

Stats, he was bought cos of stats.

The stats said he was very creative or something, I forget now, I've said stats, so CandyOil will be along now.

I suppose the thinking was he was quite young, so he might improve the things he was bad at, which sadly at this point seems like EVERYTHING.

I'm not defending his signing, but I suspect the reason he was bought was cos some stat nerd convinced somebody he was good.
The problem is the things the stats said he was good at he's not being put into a position to do. You can go on and on about anything else you like in response but until he's given a run somewhere other than right wing he's going to be terrible. And he might be terrible somewhere else too but not finding out and doing the same thing over and over is now a failure of management. Either try something else or don't play him as whatever it is he's doing now isn't good.

Hes mostly playing in his best position these days.

The bench.

At some point you just gotta hold your hands up and admit that he's complete pony.

Ive done it with loads of players.

I think it would be totally fair to bench him. If all Carlo thinks he can do is play the right then he's not good enough and shouldn't play. What I don't like is putting him out there in a position to fail every week and then subbing him off like he's letting the manager down. It is the other way now.

Obviously I think he could offer more in a different spot but if Carlo doesn't he should just stop playing him and sell him this summer.

Same as with Lookman before, until I see the thing I want to see I hold out hope.

I mean Lookman isn't the best player in the world but he's finally gotten consistent minutes this season and been more than decent. He certainly gets plenty of time in our team if we have him now. I could have put my hands up, but I waited to see what I wanted to see. Maybe I don't get to here.

Mate Lookman has been mostly utter garbo for most of the season.

This needs to stop.

He's not been. Not even a little bit. He's actually within range of being more productive than Richarlison and that's without being one of the biggest giveaway merchants in midfield in the entire division.

Sometimes you have such a low bar, 4 goals and 4 assists is not and will never be a decent return for an attacking player, its defender digits.

Richarlison has been poor this season, but even at his worst he's still better than Lookman at his "best".

Anyway, this is about Woeful, 1 thing we both agree on, he's got to be sold, I just hope we can find some utter mugs.

I'm actually nervous that we will send him to someone like Brighton or Leeds that have a manager with an actual plan who will use him in a sensible way and he'll work out for them.

I'm not saying either of those teams will do it or actually make sense, just that if they did I'd be nervous.

Yeah, I suppose your right, hes practically an unknown at this point.

Its not like hes played 6 seasons in this league, there's every chance that at some point....................... LOL, I cant even finish that sentence.

lol lol lol

He was really good his last season at Arsenal. I know that sounds weird when they decided to move on but that isn't exactly a well run club is it? If we looked to use him in that way he'd maybe be good for us but we haven't. If someone decides to do that again well...

I've done my own scouting report on Iwobi, he's poo
Capture.webp

Alex Iwobi has played one or two good games this season. LOL. More than enough chances to cement his spot with James out.

So much potential but it’s his decision making and also lack of ability to get involved in games that undermines him every time.
