2020/21 Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi has played one or two good games this season. LOL. More than enough chances to cement his spot with James out.

So much potential but it’s his decision making and also lack of ability to get involved in games that undermines him every time.
I feel that he's being told to not involve himself more. I don't think he'd choose to pin himself wide like he does.

He goes missing for like 30 minutes at a time.

I understand he didn't 'choose' to not be involved.

But sometimes you just have to know where the ball is going to go or know how to get involved in the game.

He can throw the team shape off for it sure.

He was really good his last season at Arsenal. I know that sounds weird when they decided to move on but that isn't exactly a well run club is it? If we looked to use him in that way he'd maybe be good for us but we haven't. If someone decides to do that again well...
This is not true. Having grown up in London quite a lot of my friends are Arsenal fans and 4 or 5 of them are season ticket holders. As a result I have had to watch a lot more Arsenal games than I would wish too. He was never really good for Arsenal whenever I watched him and all of my Arsenal supporting friends couldn't believe their luck when we paid them what we did for him.

I do think Iwobi could do an alright job in the Premier League. Just not for us and certainly not as a right winger.

As for you point about why he is being played out there, it's because if James is injured we don't have anyone to play that position. Ancelotti is not "letting him down" by playing him there.

He could choose to waste someone else's season

I’ve just remembered he did a social media post when on his way to play for Nigeria “hopefully I play in my actual position” or something on those lines.

He stinks the place out but still starts, did brands negotiate a starting clause in his contract or something?

he did a bit of skill against some lowly position a few months ago and a lot of naive people applauded It as his best game.

The Iwobi transfer rumour thread on the Arsenal forum is a tough read with the benefit of hindsight.

65M potentially and all you get is Theo and Iwobi in return.

Everton deserve every misfortune they get.

Most Everton fans knew. Most Arsenal fans knew.
Its only idiots like iwobis agent in this thread who continually make excuses. Oh and of course the biggest idiot of all. Evertons recruitment team.
In all my years watching Everton this is possibly the transfer that makes my piss boil than any other because it was a guarenteed waste of time and money.

What baffles me is the thought process and planning that must have gone into the decision to buy him.

It must be fair (surely ?) to assume that we now have a fairly well defined concept of how we want to play, along with a definition of the attributes and skills required of each player in their respective positions to fulfil that style of play.

Iwobi plays now as he always did at Arsenal, so no surprises there at all, in terms of what we were buying.

Either whoever is putting the jigsaw together isn’t very good at it, or alternatively, Iwobi is the beginning of a very long project and we are yet to buy the other bits that he fits in with.
This is my issue with the transfer - if the argument was that he’s a no 10/attacking midfielder we definitively didn’t need that at the time of his transfer. We needed (and still do) a wide player with pace who can carry the ball decent distances and beat people and carry a threat. We didn’t need another one paced lad who wants to play down the middle.

How do you go from bidding for Zaha to buying iwobi - there’s no way they can be on the same shortlist and smacks to me of really poor planning and a desperation just to buy anybody. This transfer is why I’m in the jury’s out camp on brands - I have sympathy in the difficulty of trying to shift our vastly overpaid deadwood but he’d been here a year and still went for this guy - another player who we’ll struggle to get shot of.

Same as with Lookman before, until I see the thing I want to see I hold out hope.

I mean Lookman isn't the best player in the world but he's finally gotten consistent minutes this season and been more than decent. He certainly gets plenty of time in our team if we have him now. I could have put my hands up, but I waited to see what I wanted to see. Maybe I don't get to here.
:Blink::Blink::oops::blush:

It was a panic buy because we couldn't get Zaha and he was probably on our list of alternatives. Probably due to stats. But stats dont mean much when you are playing alongside top forwards and usually on the front foot with Arsenal. Also his body shape is all wrong now, he is bulky and built in his upper body which slows him down he has no cutting edge, and his attitude is arrogant. He offers nothing beyond a bit of running with the ball he needs to be moved on this summer.
