This should be the standard of effort put in by him tho , I don’t break open a bottle of Champaign and hand the bin man a cigar everytime he empties my bin. As a man that gets paid a fortune every week, working hard and fighting should have been what he has been doing for years but he hasn’t been
What a daft comparison that is ?.

But if we must... I bet if you were opening your window and screaming abuse at your binman and then constantly tweeting him stick it might, just might, affect his confidence to do his job.

Crazy, I know...

Mate fist off I don’t tweet … secondly . Literally all it takes for Everton fans to get behind you is effort .. that’s all.
We are used to watching average players , all that is required to have respect and support is effort . He has not been putting it in.
I mean look at the reception Naismith got when he came back, he always gave his all.
Any player getting abuse has generally not put in the required effort .

Thats the first game of his ive seen this season, so i can only go on his other seasons with us....but i genuinely cannot remember watching him and thinking he didnt put effort in.

Play in the manner he did yesterday, no of course ives rarely if ever seen it but that doesnt mean hes been giving 50% rest of the time.

I have seen a player look lost on the pitch and nervous on the ball. He has always tracked back to help the defence and pressed up front, but for me has just done it awfully rather than not trying.

I agree he hasnt been very good, and agree yesterday he was good in the effort and commitment and pressing dept whilst still being average on the ball, but as I have said plenty times about him I really dont get the shouts of him simply no trying.

But you've got to acknowledge that confidence is key to everything. It's key to effort levels more than anything else.

I've never seen Iwobi not try. I've seen a player completely devoid of confidence.

Can aim that Q at the whole squad to be fair.

Yes true. The squad, barring a few players is very inconsistent. Calvert Lewin, Richarlison, thus far probably Gray and increasingly Gordon play with the same level of effort most weeks. I'm not saying they have good games, but they make it hard for opponents. I thought Calvert Lewin was poor yesterday, and Richarlison was average, but I bet those Leeds CB's knew they were in a game.

That's the challenge for Iwobi and lots of the others. To go to war as he did yesterday every week. Same for Holgate, same for Kenny, Godfrey, Mykolenko, Alli etc.

I'm not sure Coleman at his age will ever be consistent, or Keane mental strength will allow him to do so.

Actually setting up to have the ball and look to attack will suit Awobi, no doubt he is technically very good. Certainly not a non possession type footballer. Hoping that's what we are seeing.

Best I've seen him play yesterday but ..

He's got to prove himself over a season or more at a level similar to what he produced yesterday

He's been sh*te for years for us, and Arsenal beforehand so one good game for us doesn't make me change my mind in an instant.

He has this little 5 a side shuffle style of running that looks like he's busy. Truth is there's been many games he has let runners go flying past him. Many times he gets hooked after 60 mins because he's been a passenger.
Yesterday was actualy the first time i can remember him not being subbed.
Its completely understandable people being wary about him as he's been abysmal in his play and his effort. More proof needed by all but esp by iwobi will be in away games if he starts. High pressing at home is good. Away games will be a different kind of effort.

I dunno i think hes just looked clueless covering rather than half arsed. Like always getting back to help out but never seemingly in a position to actually help. Same when letting players run off him.

Other players down the years yes I think theyve litteraly just let the game pass them by and only ever made a symbolic show of outting effort in and "tackling". Iwobi for me has just been utter scheisse at it.

Agree to disagree.

….regular posters will know I use a phrase; ‘play like the game matters’. The top players like Cahill or Rooney will have drops in form but they always play with desire, they play like the game matters.

I’ve said in the past, Iwobi is a footballer who doesn’t play like the game matters. He loves training, it’s why his teammates nominate him as the most skilful at the club, it’s why Lampard picked him yesterday. Match days are different to training.

Yesterday Iwobi played like the game mattered, I have my doubts he’ll be like a new player but he’s set a standard we know he can reach if he applies himself.

Can he do it in successive games? Week on week?

That is the question.

Away from home too.

The big difference yesterday was his touch and passing were on point. I’ve not seen this from him for a long long time even under Ancelotti.

Is it confidence? Or is it just concentration focus and application? I don’t know but whatever it is keep it going as he looked a creative player yesterday capable of causing anyone problems.

There was one moment he pressed the opposition centreback and keeper and I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen an Everton player run so fast in years.
