….regular posters will know I use a phrase; ‘play like the game matters’. The top players like Cahill or Rooney will have drops in form but they always play with desire, they play like the game matters.

I’ve said in the past, Iwobi is a footballer who doesn’t play like the game matters. He loves training, it’s why his teammates nominate him as the most skilful at the club, it’s why Lampard picked him yesterday. Match days are different to training.

Yesterday Iwobi played like the game mattered, I have my doubts he’ll be like a new player but he’s set a standard we know he can reach if he applies himself.

I said similar yesterday. You hope the penny drops for him. On our ability I dont think hes miles behind Richarlison or DCL but the difference is they go to war every week.

I thought DCL was poor in lots of ways yesterday, and to a degree Richarlison was too, but ask those Leeds CBs how they found it. DCL won headers, held it up etc, Richarlison nailed them and pressed them all game. It means even if it's not happening for them, they contribute.

Hes a big strong lad Iwobi, who plays within himself. He plays too often like a 5 ft 7 number 10. I think a lot of it is confidence.

I hope yesterday is his moment where it sinks in what it means to be an Everton player. It's not for lack of ability if Iwobi doesnt kick on.

It’s as if he got a bollocking off his parents for being so lazy and going into hiding, he certainly suited playing with a bit of anger in him, definitely on a mission yesterday

I don't think I've ever seen him use his physicality before.

It was like one of those rare games where Heskey would put himself about, and the commentators would go on about how good he'd be if he could do this every week.

He never did, obviously.
That's it for me. Iwobi really is not all that fast or quick, but he's actually got a good frame on him and is pretty strong. Yesterday when he repeatedly used his body to win or protect the ball, that was something I have never seen from him before. His technical ability is good enough to where that exact use of physicality with the things he can do with the ball can make him very effective. But it's exactly like that Heskey situation you describe: It's got to be happening consistently.

I watched a players clip about who is the best trainer......majority of our players said Iwobi being so skilful and strong. Think this is why all of the managers have been giving him a chance and all we need is hopefully Frank Lampard to get it out of him where it counts on the matchday pitch. If he can then Iwobi could be an asset. Yesterday was the first time I had seen him using his strength to affect and boy is he strong. Last chance saloon I think

Yesterday he started to win over the fans with his performance. He has to keep that up at Southampton next week as I think Lampard will start with the same 11.
