I could count the number of good games he's had for us on the fingers of one hand I think. Yesterday he was excellent, it would be ridiculous to argue otherwise, but he owes us big time and it'd be equally ridiculous to expect him to continue this form given what we know about him.

Still, credit where it's due, really good yesterday. Won't be making any bold predictions on him. Like Gomes, there's too much water under the bridge to be expecting consistency now, so just judge each game as it comes. If he manages to string some performances together then we can reassess if he has a future here.

If we string a couple of seasons with one manager together it may help. Yes he has been awful but never hides and great attitude.

Thats the first game of his ive seen this season, so i can only go on his other seasons with us....but i genuinely cannot remember watching him and thinking he didnt put effort in.

Play in the manner he did yesterday, no of course ives rarely if ever seen it but that doesnt mean hes been giving 50% rest of the time.

I have seen a player look lost on the pitch and nervous on the ball. He has always tracked back to help the defence and pressed up front, but for me has just done it awfully rather than not trying.

I agree he hasnt been very good, and agree yesterday he was good in the effort and commitment and pressing dept whilst still being average on the ball, but as I have said plenty times about him I really dont get the shouts of him simply no trying.

Not putting tackles in is not working hard enough imo … especially when you are defending for 70% of the time. Barkley used to do it , jog around as he knew he couldn’t actually just stand there, but would never actually try to win the ball. Iwobi has played like he was going through the motions for about 2 years … not the only one to do so but saying he played amazing is a bit over the top imo. He tried hard, he didn’t score, create chances or have many shots or crosses so “ playing amazing” is not how I would describe his performance

He certainly wasnt amazing, maybe amazing in comparison to 90% of his matches. Id disagree about him putting a foot in, I still think its been more poor play than lack of effort but agree to disagree

He did actually create a chance for DCL with a very nice first time ball. He also played two very good balls behind the defence, over the top, one it looked to be putting DCL clean thru but I think it hit the back of his head unfortunately. So he did a bit more in that regard than i thought, but yeah still not much of note on the ball.

Fixed that for you.

I thought he played well compared to almost everything else he has ever done but he was still
unproductive and uncreative. Yes he ran around with real determination rather than the pretend-play he usually
gives us, actually made tackles and linked-up with others but when he had to do shoot or beat someone he was not up to it.

The guy is simply not good enough. For me, right hand side should be in seniority; Richarlison, Gordon, El Ghazi, Dobbin, Iwobi.

Everton fans are now thanking him for actualy showing a bit of determination. Thats how low the bar has been set. Thanks for looking interested.

Van de beek has already shown that in his only game for the club.

I suppose everybody deserves a clean slate under a new manager. Even this fella. But i cant just erase nearly 3 years of p!ss taking.
