2021/22 Alex Iwobi

….regular posters will know I use a phrase; ‘play like the game matters’. The top players like Cahill or Rooney will have drops in form but they always play with desire, they play like the game matters.

I’ve said in the past, Iwobi is a footballer who doesn’t play like the game matters. He loves training, it’s why his teammates nominate him as the most skilful at the club, it’s why Lampard picked him yesterday. Match days are different to training.

Yesterday Iwobi played like the game mattered, I have my doubts he’ll be like a new player but he’s set a standard we know he can reach if he applies himself.
He's pulling the wool over the eyes of people who desperately want the wool to be pulled over their eyes. He has been here for a number of years now and been an unmitigated disaster. We have other players yesterday, Keane, Kenny, Coleman, etc., having a rare good day and people, again, are desperate to rehabilitate them and imagine a glorious future in which they will be key players. They won't. Evertonians are bipolar. We beat Brentford and then indulge in the unseemly virtual fellating of Frank Lampard. We are well beaten at Newcastle and we descend into abject depression and see life in the Championship as almost inevitable. We then have a good day and beat Leeds comprehensively, and the fellating begins again with added Iwobi.

The truth is less extreme. We need to get off the carousel of emotional extremes. We've played three very poor sides since Lampard came in - and won twice, which is about right for this group of players at a club that has spent the money we have. These Everton players, in general, have failed. They may have the odd good day, but the sample size is not restricted to one or two games - it is there to be measured over multiple seasons. Lampard will stand or fall based on his judgement of this squad come the summer. If he persists with players who have consistently failed or are now over-the-hill, he will invariably join the list of broken managers who we have spat out of the club since 2016.

Amen. It’s good to see these players playing better but is it really any surprise? This is what they do. Let’s finish well this season, and then keep it going into next season and then maybe then the worm might have turned a bit. Iwobi was a 30 mill pound international player with CL experience that we bought in and now we’re going max because he had a game where he actually turned up and passed it to other player son his team. We need to see the is level of play in the majority of games. He should be one of our best attacking players ever game. He should be miles ahead of Gordon.

To call Evertonians ‘bi-polar’ is massively disrespectful mate, you should be ashamed.

Evertonians display every major mental condition mate, every one! To claim we are limited to just one Is simply not on!

Hope I never end up sitting beside you for a pint.

Easily one of his best performances, for us. I still don't think he is a good player, but if he can put that work rate in every match, I will certainly stop being critical. You can only do your best.
