2021/22 Alex Iwobi

Looks like a completely different player in the No.10 position...his passing and dribbling is so much more useful in this role. Full credit to Lampard, could start to see a turn-around in his career at Everton.
I think the key is that he is not playing as a #10. Siggy had the same issues and to some extent had the same story. Great skills but seemed to lack effort and involvement. My theory is that the shape we play suits the player and the shapes we used to play really didn't. If we told Iwobi to go out and create in teh #10 slot he would be back to being crap again. The 4141 really suits him As long as he keeps up the high energy game!
Of course the bummer would be if he picks up an injury - there i cursed it....

Running around for 90mins and showing passion, fight and determination are the absolute minimums I expect from Everton players.

Doesn't change the fact he's been pony for the very large majority of the past three seasons, not withstanding almost single-handedly costing us a point at least at West Ham just 10 days ago.

So if he doesn't get to play in his favourite position then he doesn't try as much? Really dont like that attitude.

The running he did on Saturday for example was great to see but he could have run just as hard and just as fast when he was being played on the wing (e.g. up and down the line to give more defensive cover) but seemingly choose not to for game after game after game. Lost count of the number of times opposition players just ran past him without much response, or token response at best from him.
I think it's more a case of unsurprisingly a square peg in a square hole performing better than a square peg in a round hole.

In terms of defensive duties, I feel that we often looked better with Iwobi in front of Coleman because he does track back, but offensively he was shackled.

Right now, he is a player who is showing confidence, working hard and importantly impacting on games. Evertonians want people to show heart and he is.

Whether the current perspective based on this hard work is disguising other aspects or is because others aren't, well that's another debate.

Yes, finally!

I'm still reserving judgement until after his performance against the RS and then maybe i'll start to change my mind.

There have been several times when he has received a far from rapturous welcome from Goodison when he has come on as a sub in the recent past, so he needs to convince many of us.

Fingers crossed he's actually a player we need after all

Rightly or wrongly, I don't think it'll be too useful to judge him against the RS alone, which will likely be on of our most difficult performances this season.

If on average he continues to perform for the remaining of the season and impact on performances, credit where credit is due. Right now, he's one of best.

Nevertheless, it would be naive to ignore his previous performances and take his current form as permanent - it may be a purple patch.

I agree with the first two points but he was really good against West Ham apart from that blunder and I’d say Richarlison and DCL were more at fault for not finishing any of the three killer through balls he played them than him.

Has been good under Lampard, has been awful for the whole time he’s been here though apart from that so still a long path to redemption.

Lets see how he does between now and the end of the season.

At this stage i think its madness to consider him an option next season if we could sell for £15mil.

He's clearly caught Lampards eye and seems to be doing far better effort wise. However, weve seen this from players before in short bursts.

2 years on his deal...

I like it it Zat, a few days ago you were selling him for £10mil - he’s growing on you :)

Has to do this on a consistent basis now though,Lampard appears to know what he needs to give him either a kick up the arsp or an arm around the shoulders to get the most out of him, also looks to have the gonads now to try the "lock pickers" ball which in the last few games to a degree we have profited from.

Not going to get a good response from this but I think most improved player the last 5 or so games. When heads were down and no one trying he seemed to be the only one who had any fight in him. I should mention Gordon as well to be fair.
now ive said this watch him be a donkey in the next games. Ha.
