How longs left on his contract?

Would you sell him in January for what we paid for him?
I would.

His improvement is massive but he has done that from a very very low bar that he set himself.
He has been our best player this season by a country mile and credit to him and the coaching staff.

But i would be definitely cautious about offering a new contract especially a much improved one.
I would be offering a year extension to his current contract at most and continue with that.

I think if the club see fit to offer him a new deal then sound.

Again, not an expert, but almost certain the remaining fee is amortised once a new contract is signed.
Whatever we do we need to make sure we don't get into impairment testing on our assets. Then we're done.

I spent way too long looking into this. I do not want to be the Esk.
I’m not a stupid man, far from it, but I don’t know what any of this means.

We’re creating/scoring very little and our wide forwards are probably the weakest part of the team.

Would Iwobi in a 10 role with DCL and Maupay upfront and a midfield three of Gana, Onana and Garner help us create more?

So I'm not going to say this is my exact area of expertise but I don't think they keep amortizing the fee. My guess is it just goes to zero at the end of the initial life. Also he's not going to take a contract without a pay bump so whether your amortization changes or not the amount of cash you spend is going to go up.

I'd extend him but I'd also sell him if it could be done.

My understanding is the remaining book price gets amortised by the length of the contract extension, hence the headline is the scope it creates of our cost base, it almost half his, so a new contract is a no brainer. Agreed on the wage though prob not, he will get a bump, i wouldn't think nor should if be a big one.

Funny i thought of you and the point you were making during the summer, when i was working this out and the buying of younger players Vs 29 years old, its an example of the potential resale value of signing younger players whether we extend or sell or both .

The point im getting at really is if Iwobi signs a new contract we loose Keane and Yerry from the cost base - thats 20 mill of our cost base, next year (July 23), thats before considering a fee we could get for Keane, or Yerry in Jan.

So there are a few nutters on here who are contemplating the possibility of selling our best player. Oh dear, oh dear.

Oh dear, oh dear.

Strange is it not that we lot who know a great deal about football, universally condemn Iwobi to the bin and yet Carlo who knows everything there is to know sees something in him, or should I just say picks him. I think I am right and Iwobi is garbage, so there you are Carlo.

Iwobi is useless and like other useless encumbrances we are lumbered with should be shown the door on the way to a Championship club or maybe in his case even lower than that such as a foreign league in China or Europe.

Burnley are good. Carlo's second mistake was not to substitute Iwobi after about 10 minutes. His problem now is whether and how soon to get Gomes and Davies and Iwobi off before Burnley run riot.

It is not a joke that the manager persists with this liability. When will Carlo accept Iwobi is not worth selection.

Constantly picking Iwobi makes Carlo's reputation for football infallibility look a bit thin. Are there no young up and coming players available to be given a try?

I hope Iwobi does not score in case Carlo is tempted to keep him.

There are worse players than him but that is not a compliment. At least Davies cost nothing and will be no loss when he is binned. Someone dropped a big clanger paying good money for Iwobi.

Maybe Carlo knew the score ;)

Some strange opinions being expressed on these last couple of pages...

You wouldn't think he's been our best player this season ?‍♂️
I used to say that about Michael Keane, then we replaced him with better players.

We are a team who finished 16th last season, we currently sit 12th, being the best player in that team isnt really hard.
