But why would he say his best position is out wide? Why not say "I prefer central, but blah blah"?
Because media is about perception and he decided the better thing for how he was perceived was to play like a good soldier willing to do what was necessary. It does not mean he liked or was good at playing RW/RB.

So, could it be that his unhappiness at playing in a role he "didnt want to", made his performances and his work rate be below par?

Ok, I mean I realise im talking to somebody who claimed for the last 3 years that Iwobi was playing really well, we just couldnt see it.

So theres no real point in taking this any further.
Not really, I claimed for 3 years that Iwobi was better than people said he was and argued that he wasn't being used to his fullest both of which were true. Yes I didn't kill him like most but you can find posts where I say he's not played well. I just always believed it was about position and fit in the team instead of ability of the player.

Anyway you're actually in here making the point that positions don't matter and I'd just like to see you go all the way with that line of thinking.

The Iwobi/Onana/Gueye midfield has us excited. They've been harder to play through than dreck we fielded last season but that doesn't mean they handle the ball well as a unit.

We still have not clicked as an attacking side. We haven't scored more than one goal in a game all season. Our CBs pass better than most, our GK distributes with long balls, Iwobi can charge forward etc. But with Patterson out and Gordon having an off night, we didn't have that many avenues for getting forward. Utd were able to sit in midfield, pick off balls that Gueye etc. handled poorly, and off they went on the counter.

I take your point, but we did score 2 against Southampton. Hardly parade time, granted.

If he returns his wages, we can all move past this.

Im just not willing to forget how rubbish he was for 3 years like other people.

If hes willing to return the millions in wages he stole, I am willing to forgive him.
Quite happy to forget that DCL has been unavailable for the past 18 months though.

Should he return his wages too for sitting on his arse or modelling instead of doing what he's paid to?

Yes Paul, its the same thing.
It’s a shame his worldly won’t get the credit it deserves. It was a wonderful finish. The result soured it’s impact
It was a truly wonderful strike.

Personally if I got hired for a job and they insisted that no actually you are an IT guy for years before letting me do my real job I wouldn't be in a hurry to give back the pay for the thing I was bad at. Frankly if we want to be mad you should direct your anger at Marco Silva and especially at Carlo Ancelotti
