ALEX YOUNG RIP

RiP Sir Alex legend Young.
You were not just a legend at Goodison but also your homelands Heart of Midlothian where you won the league and the cup

It's so ironic next month is the 10th anniversary of the death of my dad. Today we lost his all time favourite player (Alex Young). Within a month of his death 10 years ago, we lost the best player (in his eyes) he ever saw play for the club in Alan Ball.
RIP Alex. I never got to see you play, but my dad spoke so warmly about you as a player and a person. A true Everton giant indeed.

I remember as a kid seeing people taking a day off work mid-week to go up to Glasgow on the
off-chance that Alex might play for Scotland. In those days Scotland had loads of top forwards and there
was no guarantee that Alex might play but the attachment to Alex was so ingrained that fans would do
whatever just to watch him play.

Of course in the 60's there was barely any football on the box and to watch Alex play gave a boost to one's life. He had a real bond with the fans and to watch his graceful movement, dribbling and some of his tricks made life bearable.
The only other player I saw who had a similar effect was Butragueno in Real Madrid. Its hard to describe the level of idolatry but Alex earned it.

RIP

I can't believe I didn't hear about this until now.

I have no old family connections going back with Everton, as I am sure is similar with lots of non-local blues or WOOLS but as I got older the more of the history of our great club drew me in and in particular I was drawn to this mans legend. I mean, Golden Vision, what a nickname. Another sad loss of a connection to a more successful period for us.

I may check out that Loach documentary again now. It's a pity it's not a home game this weekend.

My lad told me the news yesterday and said 'The biggest legend of them all has gone'. Was proud of him for that, knows what the guy
meant to Evertonians and 'gets it' despite Alex playing decades before he was born.

If you know yer history an all

RIP Golden Vision

So sad - my brother shook his hand - I seen him in my school pants days what a majestic player he really was aided by Royston Vernon - I place as many pictures as I can find on here of him - RIP the Golden Vision a true gentleman who as a player at no 9 glided over the muddy pictures, hung in the air to nod goals in - god bless him !
The goal against Spurs when he seemed to just stop time, that virtually sealed the League stands out.He scored 22 that season and Vernon 27,what would a strike partnership like that be worth in today's market?

RIP
