people claiming Allan is too old were probably complaining at us selling Gueye who was the same age at the time to PSG for even more money.

Remember cos I used to work in a restaurant at that time and never had a Sunday off. And I had a day off the day he signed.

He's miles better than anything we have, yes.

Obviously the worry is him settling into a new league but he has so much power and energy I can't see the adaptation being an issue. Throw in the fact we look to be going for Doucoure too and in two players we've transformed our midfield into something resembling competency.

Maybe, given his lack of game time since Gattuso came in, he'll take a bit to get back to full sharpness but really excited if we get this one done. He's a properly, properly good player.

Big factor for me is it looks like this is the main one Carlo wanted, his main man who he can trust and the type of character he obviously feels we are lacking. It seems Allan also feels the same so I'd expect him to come straight in, hit the ground running and make a big impression on the rest of the side.

People talk about professional athletes with a massive team of health professionals like they fall victim to a witch’s curse on the dawn of their 30th year.

I’m guessing some of it comes from the fact that a lot of folks around the age of 30 couldn’t run 5k if they were being chased by a swarm of murder hornets.
