But the exact point everyone bar you are making is the RS new what they needed and paid way over the odds for it.

They could have went and got the next bright things off the block and developed them for 3/4 years.
But they identified a problem and sorted it no matter the age or the price.

Me neither I am also curious of the poster age and what side of the fence they are on in this age argument.

I’m of the belief that age doesn’t matter young or old if your good enough to improve the team your in the starting 11.

But what we are crying out for is experienced winning mentality and leaders to add to our promising young talent, you need a mix. And currently our experienced / older players lack any leadership and winning mentality, So need replacing.

Let me try a different way. We need a CB, RB, CM, another CM and a RW just to fill out our squad for next year. Chances are it still won't be CL level. That's different than the RS finishing it off with Van Dijk or United with RVP. We're far away and because we almost certainly can't get there for a couple of years it makes more sense for me to sign a player who barring disaster will still be in their prime in two years not someone who is there now but could conceivably not be in two years.

Develop a mix by signing young players and letting the ones who are good stay in the side so that they become the experience. Holgate, DCL and Richarlison are all pushing toward 100 PL appearances now.
