I was thinking him but we were already a transformed team by the time he came. He was top drawer that 86/87 season though.Paul Power?

I hope you're right but nothing is guaranteed including him even suiting the PL.It is really simple, He is better than what we have, he will improve our first team immediately, his legs won't magically fall off when he hits 30. There has to be balance but at 29 you are getting 3-5 years out of him, if he helps get us up the table then the transfer fee is irrelevant.
This isn't true though. Lots of teams take multiple years to get toward the top.No one builds anymore,No one is afforded the time to "build a team" you buy players that will impact the team there and then, this is what this transfer is.
No it is different. We had no problem moving on Lookman and Vlasic when they weren't "good enough."You can put any 2 players in the world there and say the same, the big clue is IF, how will anyone know until tried and failed but let's not sign a quality player just in case he doesn't work out, utter horse manure.
Whilst I totally see the sense in that mate, bringing him in early would also prevent the need for 50% of GOT members to visit the hospital to have their wrists sutured.![]()

But they usually don't spend money as have done or appoint an elite manager. This isn't true though. Lots of teams take multiple years to get toward the top.
If you don't think the RS's last 5 years is textbook team building then I'd suggest expanding your definition. We can't follow it because we won't be buying the most expensive CB and keeper but it still is a case of having a plan, buying players to fit the plan and not losing your cool when it doesn't work the first year or two to the level you want.Maybe in european leagues - I think you base alot of your opinions on the likes of Dortmund and the Red Bull type clubs mate.
Literally no team in the Premier League since the class of 92 at Utd has built a team over 4-5 years.
Even Liverpool have signed big name players in their later 20's to add the final piece of the jigsaw as it were.
I'm not sure that changes what I said. It also isn't completely true about the elite manager part. But they usually don't spend money as have done or appoint an elite manager.
Andy Gray and Peter Reid, I know Reidy was only 26/27 when we signed him, but, after his terrible injury problems it was looking like his best years were behind him.Not a trick question mate but who was the second veteran?
I've been racking my brain all morning.![]()

We had this under Moyes and when he left all we needed was someone who could carry it on.If you don't think the RS's last 5 years is textbook team building then I'd suggest expanding your definition.
