How is it exclusively when we have relatively young/prime CBs, wingers and CFs? The average age of the team is around 26 last I looked. I agree we shouldn't be buying players nearer 30 in every instance but on the other hand can we take another risk on a young player in midfield right now? Yes we made a mistakes in the past, Gylfi, Williams and Delph do spring to mind. Yes the strategy should be to develop players to grow and then possibly resell. But we need a few players to come in and hit the ground running in the midfield. I really doubt our other additions will be anywhere near 30.

If I was a "Headpatter" mate, there is no way on earth that I wouldn't have been able to not make one comment about the results between our two teams in the last 6 or so games I've been on here.
Not one comment have I made about the results at the time (although I may have said something recently when someone was digging me out. Not sure if I did though?)

I just care that he's better than what we have.

We don't need to imaginative. We don't need to find golden eggs. We need to, every single year, buy players who are better than those we have and thus give us a better chance of moving up the table.

Being better than we have really is such a low low bar. A passing knowledge of world football would have almost all of them figuring out a better midfield than what we have.

It's like Hojbjerg, getting him in would be like going from a 1(which I truly think we(our midfield) are, we are beyond woeful) to a 3. He's not amazing, he can do a job. Does that improve us? Of course. Does it improve us enough? Not even close.

Comparing Allan to a Premier League player then I would say the best fit would be Kante. Elite level of recoveries, a player who can play higher up the pitch as Sarri did with Kante but quite limited.
