2022/23 Amadou Onana

You said doucoure and gana carry him, well that’s not what I’m seeing doucoure is a liability in midfield. Dyche is basically playing him as a number 10. Gana has made more mistakes leading to goals Than Onana. Fair enough you don’t rate him, the Belgium manager does.
And so does dyche.

And one good game is an embarrassing shout. We’ve won like 20% of our matches this season, probably average around 30/35% possession and you want him to boss it every week.
Find me another 20yr old kid coming from a weaker league and coming to a poor struggling side, basically relegation fodder. And bossing it every week. You could go back 20yrs and you won’t find many
Doucoure has been an ever present since Dyche took over, he is up and down the pitch, scoring two goals which earned two valuable points, yes Gana has made mistakes and gave a penalty away but he never hides, something the 21 year old Onana is very efficient at and this going missing has led to Everton defending with a man missing constantly, want him to boss it every week? Just doing his job helping his teammates instead of ambling and wandering around the field would be enough for me, yes I rate him up to now I think he has, for me, an average of 5/10 since he came as a player, as a cheer leader 9/10. Could you honestly say, since you brought him into the argument, that Doucoure wasn’t massively missed on Saturday and will be for the next two games? By the way Onana has been substituted in five of the last few games which included his diabolical performance at Anfield where a young 18 year old midfielder was MOTM playing in his first season for the opposition.

There’s definitely some of our fans who’d happily get our Money back on Onana and give doucoure a new 3yr deal. Has doucoure been a good buy? 20mil and 15mil in wages, walks away for nothing or we give him anoyer
Year and another 5mil in salary. Doucoure can’t play as a two with gana or Onana,
Because he can’t defend and is technically poor. Better to give the ball away higher up the pitch.

How many times has doucoure or gana been diabolical,Plenty of times. Am
I disappointed in Onana yes and I think he should have done
Better in his first year, but I think his price tag is effecting some of our fans, opinion of him.

He was getting destroyed by loads of our fans on twitter after spurs, yet these were his numbers.

So you are disappointed with him now and reverting to criticising Doucoure which adds nothing to your argument then adding stats to your argument which reduces it further, use your eyes blue boy they will tell you more about a player than stats will ever do and as for his price whether he cost £33M or on a free transfer that has nothing to do with a players ability but I will concede costing £33M should make expectations a bit more than a free transfer, like you I am disappointed with Onana and we need his ability now, not his possible potential in the future.

I think your in the wrong thread because he definitely doesn’t boss it every week.

Think you need to read the thread. I never said he was bossing it, some people think he should be, week in week out. So as I suggested, find me a kid (20) who came from a weaker league to the prem and plays for a relegation fodder team and bosses it. Like I said you won’t find many

We spent 20mil on doucoure 27, 20 on Allan 29, 25 on Gomes 26. 25 on Gbamin who was 23 or 24. Our fans scream we need to buy youngsters With potential who can grow. Like we did with richarlison, who had a not so great first season with Watford.

But now we need to buy ready made players again. Because Onana is not running the game every week, Well we haven’t got fortunes to spend just look at the players I’ve mentioned above, all been bad buys. We can’t go and pay 50/60mil for midfielders, ok Brighton have found a few gems but it’s very rare.

Leeds bought 2 midfielders last summer 24 and 26, 20mil a piece and are very average players.

I don’t rate doucoure, never have,
nobody wanted him when he left Watford only the team that finished 12. 20mil for a top 6 side is peanuts, for a experienced prem squad player, spat his dummy out because Frank didn’t rate him and sat on a ball during a warm up. A few good games under dyche and people making out he’s a world beater

blueboy, I was debating how good, bad or indifferent Onana was with you not about the transfers of Allen,Gomes, Gbamin, I know how they turned, Onana might, as you say, turn out to be a very good signing but from what I’ve seen up to now he’s not much help to the team in our present predicament, he’s more of a handicap and Doucoure, true, hasn’t been a great signing but in the, last few weeks he’s been what we need now, imo, and I prefer him to Onana at the present time, needs must, beggars can’t be choosers.

All fair points, but my original point was about him only playing 25 games and fans giving up on him. It would be great to buy ready made players but as the last few years have shown it’s not easy. Having a clueless inferring owner/board and poor DOF’s doesn’t help.

My guess is we probably paid 10mil max down on Onana, if we had more I think Lampard would have looked for more experience

He’s playing at one pace. Haven’t seen him get out of second gear at all. Why?

Frustrates me a lot. He’s capable of running forward with the ball. Never does it. None of our players do, Gray occasionally.
If you look at someone like Willock at Newcastle - he’s no great player but causes havoc by travelling with the ball. Something our midfield has lacked for years.
