2022/23 Amadou Onana

Im not blaming any of the players today...

100% on Dyche for me

If we'd have had 3 midfielders and United had 2 in there and Onana etc were poor then id be agreeing with you.

But for me today its all about the tactics.

If Dyche was going to play this way he may have just rested a few players.
The tactics were wrong I agree but Onana is poor when there three central midfielders, he gets carried by Doucoure and Gana Gueye every game and Gana was battling on his own yesterday with your man Onana hardly in the game and went missing entirely when the man he was supposed to be marking was allowed the space to score the goal.

The number of goals scored by players that run within 2 feet of him on their way into the box is an astonishing number. I’ve said it repeatedly in posts months ago, ignoring all the badge slapping, and it still happens. If I can see it, im quite sure teams of highly paid analysts can see it. If you can see his shirt number, you can make your way completely unaccompanied to the edge of our 6 yard box. Bang goal. Practically every replay you see him just making his way into the box, far enough away to not get blamed, but he lost his man 5 seconds ago.

So so want him to have a stormer. Seems a good lad, if a bit fake. It’s the only reason he gets a game, the fact that you know he “could” pop up and dominate a game at some point, but still waiting. The above massive flaw in his awareness would be mitigated if he created or posed a threat going forward. But he just doesn’t. Can’t shoot from distance, can’t take the awkward half chances that fall to him, isn’t pinging long balls like a quarterback, doesn’t play incisive clever shorter balls. Loves a good wall pass with Tarks though to pad his pass completion % and boost number of touches.

The harshest thing that can be said is that out of all the starts he has made (whenever fit and available basically), how many games can people honestly honestly say he has had a bigger impact offensively and defensively than Andre sodding Gomes would have had. Or Tom. Half a dozen at most. Should be almost all. He’s obviously not as bad a player as those 2, but in terms of impacting games positively, there is just nothing there. He’s rarely terrible, he’s just a ghost in the battle, just as Gomes often was. Plenty of carthorse midfielders affecting games far more than he does every weekend. Embarrassingly, Doucoure being one.

If he can get even close to his potential in the last 8 games, his teammates will feel like they are playing with an extra player.

Onana will have 5x times the careers of them 2. Doucoure is a runner who’s spent his whole career in England fighting relegation.

Maybe, he’s taking a long time to get that career going at Everton.
He’s played 25 games for us ffs are you for real you going to give up that quickly on every youngster we buy. DCL got 11 goals in
His first 80 games. Some people want to give Davies more time. Leighton baines spent his first season on the bench. Fellaini looked raw in his first season.
And there’s plenty more of them.

Well I’m commenting on what I’ve seen up to now, one very good game out of twenty five, one or two not bad and the rest poor to average and going missing in most of them.

While you are making predictions about the rest of his career based on the same number of games as myself and you are asking me “ ffs are you for real”? and I never compared him to other players, just that he has been found wanting in all area’s of the pitch attacking and defending.

21 first season in the prem, playing for one of the poorest sides. Under 2 different style managers. But now playing regular for one of the top nations in the world and performing at a good level. He will only get better

He’s got potential but I think if you have £50+ million to spend (which we’d be asking) on a midfielder then he’s not going to be near the top of your list just now.

You said doucoure and gana carry him, well that’s not what I’m seeing doucoure is a liability in midfield. Dyche is basically playing him as a number 10. Gana has made more mistakes leading to goals Than Onana. Fair enough you don’t rate him, the Belgium manager does.
And so does dyche.

And one good game is an embarrassing shout. We’ve won like 20% of our matches this season, probably average around 30/35% possession and you want him to boss it every week.

Find me another 20yr old kid coming from a weaker league and coming to a poor struggling side, basically relegation fodder. And bossing it every week. You could go back 20yrs and you won’t find many

That depends, arsenal paid 50 for partey at 28. Spurs paid 60 for Ndombele, Liverpool 50 for keita. Gallagher has looked bang average for Chelsea from what I’ve seen and he’s getting 45mil price tag.

He’s won’t be top of teams lists. But only so many midfielders available. I never rated rice when I first saw him. Now he’s getting quoted over 100mil.

Arsenal seem to be getting strongly linked,
Maybe they think getting him for 50mil? Is better than paying 100 for Rice.

The kid at Southampton who left city.
Is it lavia? I seen Chelsea getting linked for big money , I haven’t watched Southampton,
But he’s also probably had a very inconsistent season and like Onana been more bad than good, but that doesn’t mean too clubs won’t be interested. Onana will have been on the radar of all the top teams for years
