I believe the point @LocalNative Is making is that u21 players find it easier to come into top level teams -- due to the talent around them making the step up easier.

With u21s coming into relegation threatened teams with weaker players its a more difficult task to step up.

Regarding the last comment "all the talent i named are playing for the elite for a reason"...could that be why Arsenal, Chelsea, United and now Newcastle are being linked to him throughout 2023 ?



Ramsey is a quality player but i think the impact he's had has been playing in advanced positions. Whether thats out on the left wing (3 goals / 3 assists in 9games) or as an attacking midfielder.

While Onana has always been a DM until the season just gone (apparently moved to the centre to "develop his all round game").

Another thing is that Onana hasnt had a full preseason for 4 years now and was coming into a different league...while of course Ramsey has been brought through at Villa.

Typically any player needs a season to adapt. i'd expect him to go up a gear when played in his correct position and with players around him who arent dreadful on the ball (Maupay, Iwobi, Davies, Doucoure an McNeil for half a season).

Onana, Garner and Ramsey would be some midfield.

On stats hes better than Caicedo? He was nowhere near the level of Caicedo all season. You can use stats to suit any argument you want so im not having that. You say those teams are linked with him but has there been any real bids or is it just paper talk? Of course its easier to come into Madrid Bayern etc but at the fear of repeating myself shouldnt he be standing out in our shabite side if hes that talented?

So if you are dismissing the stats (posted by me within this thread from 2 different sources) then i could also say Caicedo...

...was poor against Villa and Newcastle and looked like he'd won a competition when we destroyed his team 5-1.

Do you think Busquets or Makalele stood out? How do you think they would look playing in the same role Onana has been playing this season?
 
Youse will be pleased to know im saying nothing else on this thread as im going round in circles now. To sum up i hope he becomes the player people think hes gonna be or someone does give us silly money for him but for me the jury remains out.

Cba mate you think the sun shines out of Onanas jacksie i think hes showed little. its pointless going round in circles as we will never agree. If hes still here next season then the proof will be in the pudding and i hope i am on here this time next year saying i was wrong.

This is what I was saying about Patterson and the reason he shouldn’t of been played plus I don’t think he was ready anyway but would of had a better chance with better players around him.

So you admitting he’s not been that £70m player the media have hyped him to be cause as I’ve said before he’s barely looked like being worth what we paid or you sticking by him being a top player? Even if he turned out to be a dud you’d still say he’s top class.

Of course the jury remains out. He started 11 games in the French league, then comes to the toughest league in the world to play for a relegation fodder team. At the age of 20.

He’s started more games for Belgium recently in midfield than Tielemans. And the fact he’s getting linked to top clubs says a lot about him and his potential

Mate Coleman needed replacing 2 years ago I’m not pro Coleman or anti Patterson I go on what I see in games. It’s jibberish? How? So question forget what the media say. Do you think onana is worth £70million or even £60 based off what you seen last season? Forget the 2 international games what Everton fans aren’t interested in for the games he played for Everton is he worth double? I think I already know your answer.
 

Any suggestion that Onana will definitely be a great player or definitely be a mediocre player is clearly wrong.

What we have seen is a player with a lot of attributes and potential but huge flaws in his game that nobody knows if he’ll iron out or not. Could go either way.

As ive asked a few posters before name the games where he was outstanding for us last season and explain why hes suddenly worth double what we paid. im in agreement. The lad has potential, he is good character and potential cult hero. But we paid the same for him as we did for iwobe… he gets a lot easier time than iwobe does and contributed less.
If he stays I’ll be happy think he will improve. If he goes for 70m, the. Well done that was the plan!
 
For me, Onana is not one of the candidates for the "get rid" list. He is worth persevering with to see how he develops with hopefully a set of improved players around him.
