It was more an age comparison. I dont get the argument hes 21 and should therefore be excused having one really good game a season for us. The point is other players are doing it young and if hes this talent everyone would have us believe then we should have seen more from him last season.

If you can name me any centre mids under 21 and not playing for a Champions League team who's performing consistently great then go for it.

As I say mate it's incredibly rare and if he was he wouldn't be here. He's displayed the right attributes and qualities to suggest he can do that regularly in the future and that's what we're banking on. We need to give him time to get there - it's an incredibly hard position for a young player to master, particularly in their first season at a struggling team.

To be honest i could do what most people do on here and go through various websites to make my argument but im not interested in that. If people want to hail Onana as a superstar then fine but as of yet i aint buying it.

The only player you've compared him to is Bellingham. Who as I've said is the greatest midfield talent in the world right now. Unfair comparison.
Why is it? Plenty on here are saying hes worth 70 plus mil and got bags of potential. Isnt his end goal to be someone like Bellingham? If so he needs to start performing.

Last point i will make. On googling top european U21 talent Gavi Musiala Camavinga the list is quite extensive. That is not based on my vast knowledge of european football mate thats just a quick 2 min google search. So again the 21 yr old argument to me is moot. I dont understand why it has to be someone who isnt in the champions league either. If Onana is that good then how did we get him? All the talent i named are playing for the elite for a reason.

Jacob Ramsey is roughly the same age and has much more of an impact in games on a consistent basis. I’m disappointed with the impact Onana has had for the money he cost. He needs to improve next season.

Once again mate you've mentioned players playing for Barcelona, Bayern and Real Madrid. Obviously he's nowhere near that level which is why he plays for Everton and not one of them. I don't know what's hard to understand about that? Your expectations are clearly way too high at the minute.

I like Ramsey a lot. But he's had vastly more experience in the PL - he didn't hit the ground running in his first season either.

I think Onana was OK this season, was particularly good in the first half but seemed to struggle towards the end of the season. I'd expect improvement next season.

I really don't think we should sell Onana

Selling our best players is not a good idea in our current predicament. C.F. last two years worth of business if you want some examples

I doubt he’ll leave this season. People have to remember that there are a plethora of other DM’s available and only 2 clubs buying (Chelsea and Arsenal). Chelsea look like theyll get Lavia and Caicedo and Arsenal look like theyll get Rice meaning Onana wont have a premier league move available to him. There are rumours of Newcastle being interested but thats waffle seeing as they have Guimaraes and wont be selling him any time soon.

Its not my expectations. Based on what ive seen i dont rate him the way other people on here do thats the point. This argument that hes in a crap team and is only 21 doesnt wash. Good players stand out in crap teams and he hasnt. Those players mentioned in decent sides are in them because they perform they are not being carried through games by the better players. If hes nowhere near that level then why is he worth 70mil plus?

No Everton fan rates Onana on the same level as the previously mentioned players, just not true. I think a few can see that the potential is there for him to become a very good player albeit he has a lot of room for improvement.

Completely unfair expectations for a 21 year old centre-mid, in his first season in a foreign country for a struggling team.

We will agree to differ. I want him to be a player but i buy perfomances not hype.

This is due to the price the media has quoted him as being valued at by Arsenal and Chelsea.

Now were seeing Caicedo named as £75-80mil while Onana has superior stats.

Newcastle are also being linked to Onana for around that figure and theyve not made too many recent transfer errors bar Gordon.

I believe the point @LocalNative Is making is that u21 players find it easier to come into top level teams -- due to the talent around them making the step up easier.

With u21s coming into relegation threatened teams with weaker players its a more difficult task to step up.

Regarding the last comment "all the talent i named are playing for the elite for a reason"...could that be why Arsenal, Chelsea, United and now Newcastle are being linked to him throughout 2023 ?

Ramsey is a quality player but i think the impact he's had has been playing in advanced positions. Whether thats out on the left wing (3 goals / 3 assists in 9games) or as an attacking midfielder.

While Onana has always been a DM until the season just gone (apparently moved to the centre to "develop his all round game").

Another thing is that Onana hasnt had a full preseason for 4 years now and was coming into a different league...while of course Ramsey has been brought through at Villa.

Typically any player needs a season to adapt. i'd expect him to go up a gear when played in his correct position and with players around him who arent dreadful on the ball (Maupay, Iwobi, Davies, Doucoure an McNeil for half a season).

Onana, Garner and Ramsey would be some midfield.
