This is exactly the transfer model we were crying out for, like Dortmund or Ajax. Buy a promising young player, develop them and sell them on for huge fees to reinvest in the squad.

I like Onana, he very well may become an excellent player but right now £55m is more than what he’s worth.

55 millions is not a huge fee...we are not even doubling what we pay for only last summer. His book value would also be high as only in his first year of contract meaning that from a ffp perspective its not a good deal at all.

Would be hoping for some add ons with that £55m to take it up closer to £65m if they're all met.

He's still largely all potential though and given our position we could do a hell of a lot with £55m. Suspect our targets would change fairly drastically.

£55m is a pretty huge fee for a player who flattered to deceive on many occasions last season.

Chelsea paid £75 million for Fofana last summer. A promising 21 year old defender. That should be the benchmark for what we ask for Onana, a promising 21 year old midfielder.

The 20 percent sales clause changes everything for me. If we keep him one more year I can see his price soaring as teams are desperate to add promising central mids. You get the right price- okay. I’m not a fan of selling low just because big figures are going around. Somebody will overpay- there is always a club desperate to add an unknown potential like him.
