Or to acomodate Gueye

Perhaps, although Gana is a press machine while Onana is an anchor...seems strange play the anchor box to box and the presser deep.

Chelsea will be signing Caicedo instead of Onana you would imagine.

Hopefully so.

Onana a higher ceiling than Caicedo for me.
Caicedo is another Bissouma, tidy, hardworking mid. Onana has potential to be an all round midfield beast.
Still can't get my head around having a 20% sell on clause, has anyone ever heard of this before?
20% profit clause yes, but straight sell on means if we sold him for the same he cost us they would still get paid?
I think its a clause on the profit. Otherwise it makes no sense.

I really liked Bissouma before he disappeared...Cucurella also hasnt delivered since his move. Caicedo looks quality but not 'elite'.

Onana actually looks levels above playing that central role for Belgium. Hes just walked into that team and massively outperformed the previous DM Axel Witsel who played 43 games for Atletico last season.

For £55mil-£60mil that probably would make sense for a 21 year old Witsel...Onana has to be far higher.

….I actually like Gyokeres but I have serious doubts about his ability to Step-up. He’s competitive but I can see top flight CBs managing him comfortably.

For the monies being asked, I think there’s much more value in the global market. Of the players linked, I like El Bilal Toure. He looks raw but he has the physicality to get defenders out of their comfort zone.

El Bilal Toure is someone we should have got last summer instead of Maupay.

Hopefully Thelwell has 'the next' El Bilal Toure in is sights.

If £55-65m aren’t huge numbers what do you consider a genuinely big offer?

£75mil + clauses this summer.

Too high we need to be realistic even if he was worth that which he’s not, clubs have got us over a barrel knowing we’re in deep 💩 anything over £50m he’s gone.

If he gets better his value goes up. He shows a ton of promise but there's nothing to guarantee he's going to make that step up. We aren't in s position to turn our noses up at £55m. Should it be more? Yeah, absolutely. But the whole "let's keep him another season" is a really big risk.

What is "too high" ?
The £55m asking figure in the press has probably been leaked from inside the club. Whether or not we think that's an acceptable figure, it's obviously the point at which we're willing to do business. If we start asking for £20m over that figure I can't see us getting any nibbles.

Once more, it's the dreadful bargaining position we've worked ourselves into + the limited opportunities we gave the lad to show what he can do.

£20m+ profit after one season is tidy business, and if we can ID a similar player this summer and repeat the feat (hopefully from a better bargaining platform) next year, we'll be cooking.

I think if hes sold for under £75mil it will be a colossal mistake.

Even simply for FFP it makes sense to hold for a season.

If were going to buy top young players and then move them on to generate funds for 2 more each time....we need the right fee and the right timing.

£20mil profit doesnt get you another comparable player at this level...it has to be a double your money deal.

Probably inclined to sell Onana. The club cannot really turn down a decent fee between 50-70m lets say.

Hopefully Chelsea can give us a large portion of the dough upfront like Spurs did with Richarlison and we can spread it around the squad with the main focus clearly being our forward options

I’d hold until next summer. If he’d had a good second half of the season then it’d be easier to maximize his value, but I see it as a big risk to sell now. Look what Chelsea paid for Enzo and Mudryk. I mean they paid more for Cucurella than the figures being thrown around for Onana.

Do I think it’s a fair price right now? Yeah I do. Would it hurt the club? Eh he wasn’t that impactful in the run-in so if it’s well invested :p we could easily improve the team. But there’s a chance that he truly busts out next season as one of the more well rounded midfielders in the league, and I’d rather take the gamble on that happening. It’d a shock for his value to decrease, but not surprising for it to increase quite a bit.

He could go full Gmblammo and his knee falls off. Sell him while there is still potential to be banked.
