2023/24 Amadou Onana

I had him as my MoM in our poll, although I knew young Jarrad would get it for a much more obvious performance. I was watching Onana’s movement without the ball and that was what impressed me the most, not only closing down opponents, filling space to stop them moving forward but now also moving into space to receive the ball when a team mate is under pressure. He’s playing the way he does for Belgium and maturing every game.

Anyone with eyes could see he had talant, I think the manager has given him more freedom the past 3/4 games and it's showing. Plays better with Garner next to him than Gueye.
This

As much as Gana's demise has been overblown by many on this site, I think we have to acknowledge that, for whatever reason, Onana seems to play much better without him in the side.

I dont undetstand about either point on 'technically'. His technique is well up there.

His passing is quality. Just look at the assists he should have had start of season, the through balls he has in his locker like today when DCL was offside. For Belgium especially, very good

The frustrating but necessary thing is that even if we sold for £125mil it would give us £106mil....£100mil would give us £86.6mil.

Due to his £33mil fee having the 20% clause on profit to Lille.

If we sold him we would surely need to use the money on 3 CM players. We only have Garner left at end of the season with both Gana and Gomes out of contract.

So it would be a case of Onana OR 3 new CMs so we have 2 starting and 2 to rotate.

We may even need to spread the money around due to lack of bodies so Onana = 3×CM + 1×RW + 1×ACM.

Would we be a better team with e.g Neil (Sunderland), Hackney (Boro), Wharton (Blackburn), Bakayoko (PSV) and Gnonto (Leeds)

Or keeping a future superstar in Onana?

A: Would those 5 players improve the team more than keeping Onana?

B: Would those 5 players values increase substantially more than Onanas' will over the next few years?
Not technically gifted to play further forward. He aint skillfull enough and has more room to drive forward from where he is playing now

Righto, well I had a flick through a few media sources and they rated him 7, I rated him 7, but I know you're right. I know you're right because you spend every day on here telling everyone how wrong they are and how right you are. I guess he's gotta be worth £500m to the Saudis now eh?
I’ve given you both a thumbs up because I had him at an 8/10.

Thought that was one of his best performances for us, he was a presence in the midfield all game.

Zat is a wise owl.

His shooting needs work but I'm not sure "technically gifted" is reserved for forward players?

Theres been many a defender or midfielder who have been "technically gifted".

Just for arguments sake, Mikel Arteta was highly technical and of course played central midfield many times. Different players but both with great passing ability etc.

I know. He's so clever he can quote half a dozen people here at the same time to correct them all in one fell swoop.

You're both right and wrong.

After including Onana in his Team of the Week, Shearer wrote on the Premier League’s official website: “A real powerhouse performance. He led by example at the heart of Everton’s midfield.”

I like him, he's still learning but you can see the potential and has looked miles better with Garner, mind you we look much better now Dom is back and he let's the whole team step up the pitch.

Don't see the need for polarising arguments. He is chugging along nicely, he doesn't have to be a superstar every game and he will have games where he's off the boil.

I really want us to build around that midfield of Garner and Onana and really wish we could get someone a bit more technically proficient than Doucouré ahead of them because I'm not sure what he's supposed top be doing at the moment, he seems to be playing more like a forward and I think we could benefit better with maybe Danjuma there or move McNeil inside.
