American Food

I've only been to Florida, and I loved it ! Defo need to back at some point and maybe venture out a bit further
I actually think Florida is where my real love of food began and my eyes became bigger than my belly, which has never stopped being the case since then to be honest. And I was only about 13 at the time, but just remember going to the Ponderosa one time for breakfast which had something like a 100-item breakfast bar to choose from. It was heaven. It's also where my love for Dr Pepper began, although it was a knock-off version called Mr Pibb. When we got back to the UK I was frantically searching for it, and obviously as we didn't have it I stumbled upon Dr Pepper as being the far superior alternative. Great times. What a holiday - stayed in a beautiful villa with its own pool, had a rental car and spent 10 days in Kissimmee, FL in and around Disney World.

Some great food in the US of A. I still can't get over how good the evening buffet was at the Bellagio in Vegas when I went. Most I've ever spent on a meal in my life, but well and truly worth it - about $85 bucks for buffet and unlimited alcohol, and they had some cracking beers on draft as well such as Blue Moon.

Also enjoyed very much the food in Austin, Texas (BBQ of course), and on the West Coast up in Seattle where I enjoyed some great burgers and craft beers.

Great street food available in NYC, and also really liked the deep dish pizzas in Chicago.
Where did you try in Austin food wise?

Just watched the episode of Somebody Feed Phil and he was in Austin.

I was in Fort Lauderdale for a short stay a few months back. Went to Chima the Brazilian rodizio, Roccos Tacos and Cafe Europa were among the highlights. Every meal was great.

I can't remember now off the top of my head but it wasn't one of the famous smokehouses, but still a brilliant one with all the trimmings.. beef brisket, ribs, mac & cheese, cornbread, smoked chicken, spicy sausage, etc. Unreal.
Maybe Salt Lick? We were suppossed to try there last time we visited but changed plans. Have only been to Terry Blacks and that was amazing.

That was the one on my list, but I wasn't prepared to camp out all night to secure a seat. lol

Figured most BBQ joints would be 10 times better than anything in Europe anyway, and was absolutely right! Not cheap, mind you!

I did thanksgiving at the bellagio buffet in 2019. It’s outstanding. Also if you’re ever in Denver, go to the Blue Moon brewery. They make a lot of really good beers they don’t really distribute that many don’t know about as they only widely sell their original flagship wheat.

Also Austin is great. Surprisingly there’s a Detroit style pizza place called via 313 that’s a must go for me when I visit. Top notch.

Try the Florida that is not a beach and is not an amusement park. That leaves almost all of Florida. - advice from a old Florida-born native (we exist)

The natives hang out where the tourists aren't.
Do you know how many lakes are in this state?
Ever take a slow boat up the St. Johns from Sanford to Palatka?
Do you like visiting the wildlife that doesn't go to the clubs?

That's where we'll be. And at the game. And home.

We have a serious fetish with smoked meat over here. Sometimes we get it right. Brisket in Texas, Pork in Carolina, Chicken in Alabama (Big Bob Gibson style) and sides, sides, sides - except for Texas. They don't play sides, except to not hear you complain. It's the German in them.
Texas's other main dish is chicken fried steak, which is basically just a schnitzel made out of a tough piece of cow that has been beaten into shape (aka "tenderized"). Here's this year's Texas Monthly winner (you have no idea how big a deal this is). Alvin Zhou made the video below. It's 30 minutes well spent.

Is this a song ?

Well, you certainly are not selling it to me
It's all in what you're looking for. It's interesting living in a place that held 4 million people when I was a lad and has over 20 million today.

Just giving a hint at what you'll find if you venture past the tourist venues. What you'll learn about Florida from your typical vacay is something like what you learn about Liverpool on a Beatles tour or the standard Kopite haj through Castle Greyskull. Look behind the Potemkin village and you'll find the real people who aren't working for your $. We're friendly (mostly) and can hang whether you like craft brew or PBR by the 12-pack. Either will work with good 'cue or a fish fry or some garlic crabs or...

Here's what I mean.
