American players

Given that we are talking about Bradley and given that we need a rt. wing and Fulham players will up for sale here is my opinion of them (feel free to add or tell me I don't know what the f(*& I'm talking about):

Here's my opinion of the American outfielders:

Most Talented: Landon Donovan S, CM Age 26: - I don't think there are 10 footballers in the world who have the talent he does. No American is close not even Adu. Every now and then you see evidence of the immense talent he has (free kicks, runs in the box, the way he controls a 50 yard pass with a light touch etc.) However he hates football, gets by on his talent, and is perhaps the softest player in the world, if he receives one hard tackle its like he gets afraid of the ball (see 06 WC). NEXT.....

Can we afford him? Yes but we don't want him and he likes to hang on the beach and wouldn't want to come here anyway. If any European team picks him up he's a VDM waiting to happen.

Runner up: Freddy Adu LW,RW,S- Age 19: Arguably the best player in the U-20 WC (though in my opinion Agureo was better but by not too much) can beat anyone one-on-one in any league, throws out nasty crosses on the wing as well. However ego still gets in the way and he suffers from a bad case of Stevie G disease in which he really wants to play CM. In the middle of the park C-mids and CBs just gang up on him and easily knock him off the ball. If he would only STICK TO THE WING HE'D BE BETTER THAN WALCOTT!!!!!!! THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR YOU TO BE A RESERVE ON BENFICA WHILE AGUERO IS ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN SPAIN!!!

Can we get him if we want him? Benfica only paid 1M for him which was a steal because there is still a chance he could develop into a 15-20M rated player. Yes, I think he needs a manager like Moyes to set him straight plus I think he really wants to play in the Prem. However if he becomes as good as his talent he'll want to leave as soon as a bigger club puts in a bid.

The best American in 2012 will be I'm skeptical that Freddy Adu will ever live up to his talent so its.....

Joey Altidore CF age 18 or 19- as long as he doesn't go to Barca this year. Classic CF who stays in position and can score with his head and feet. He's not that good yet and needs to go to a lesser team 1st. I think he'd fit right in at Villa and a partnership of Gabby, Young and Joey would be the best 2 Brits and a Yank partnership since the Pretenders. On 2nd thought Villa is already pushing us and has lots of money, go to Barca Joey. I think he could be almost as good as Samuel Eto when he reaches his prime.

Can we afford him: If Kendrick has an extra 10-12M between his couch cushions yes.

Runners up: 2A. Michael Bradley (holding mid age 20) and 2B. Clint Dempsey Age 25. (RW can play some striker and Osman's position) - Once Dempsey gets used to the number of matches in the Prem he is going to be very very good. I think he could be as good as Cahill is. Dempsey may be 25 but American players don't play as much in college and MLS as European players do so there isn't too much milage on him and he hasn't really been coached yet.

I haven't seen Bradley in the land of Kuyt (20+ goals in the Dutch league) but in America he has improved from you're only on the team becasue your daddy is coach to holy s%^& damn you are good! Bradley hasn't been the offensive force for America that he is at Heeveeeneeernenennen. His manager on Heeveneren says that he's going to be a star if its worth anything. On Everton he could provide some much needed height to our squad and perhaps get a few of those balls which Cars skies into row Z on goal. He still has to improve his tackling and he needs a year of seasoning in the prem so if we do pick him up don't expect him to beat Carsley for a starting 11 position the 1st year.

Both players are also the hardest working players in the US side, are easily coachable and are always doing what it takes to get better.

Can we get them? Yes and both shouldn't cost too much though be might have to get in a bidding war for Bradley with Blackburn and maybe another team. Also, Im not sure that after selling Alves if Heveeerenennenen is cash strapped, plus they are in the running for a C-League spot so they may not be eager to sell.

If all these players turn out to be as good as advertised I think the US has a serious chance to win the 2018 WC.

Other Americans who would be good on Everton: I think McBride can come in as a cheap reserve striker and bang in a few goals like Duncan did at the end of his career. Plus with Cahill out no one on our team besides Lescott can get a head on the ball.

Here are some youtubes of the U-20 WC Bradley is in a bit of the 1st one:

US 2 Brasil 1. Altidore scores at 1:30 just watch the talent Adu has at 6:52 ON THE WING!!!

Here's another great goal at the U-20 WC NOTICE HE IS ON THE WING by Freddy.

Top write up there Rook.

What ever happened to the next big thing in USA football Danny Steilza didnt he turn us down to stay in the MLS?

This is what his wiki says:

Szetzla (age 20) was bought by Racing Sandtander for about 125K. He was pretty good in the U-20 worlds scoring 3 goals. He's 19 was loaned out to an Italian serie B side Brescia Calcio.

.

One player i think should be mentioned is Taylor Twellman, who currently plays for New England Revolution in the MLS. He had a brief spell in germany where he never played above the reserve level, but he was really young at the time and we all know some americans struggle a bit in germany (donovan, clint mathis). he's a bit on in years (28) so we couldn't get an insane amount of use out of him, but as he's in MLS we should be able to buy him for cheap and i think he'd be a viable option.

For cheapo strikers McBride, even though he is 73 years old, is way better than Twellman. Twellman would be decent on a Championship side but in the prem he just isn't that good enough and would have trouble getting in reserve minutes on a team like Sunderland.

Twellman wanted to go to Preston but MLS turned down the bid, I think he's in the last year of his contract.

Couple more players:

Bobby Convey (24 left wing) - Reserve on Reading. Was one of the Reading's best players in the Championship in 05-06 when reading finished at the top of the table with about 316 points. Was decent in the few appearances for the squad in the prem but got hurt and lost his starting position to the player I have a man-crush on, Stephen Hunt.

Can we afford him: Of course, but he'd just be a reserve. There are prob a couple prem sides he could start on though.

DeMarcus Beasley (LW age 25) - Rangers (joined for 700K) I was hoping Everton would sign him last year when we needed a LW. He throws in very good low knee level crosses that AJ loves; I think if Johnson could get 15 goals if they played together. Plus he's has enough pace to beat almost anyone one-on-one on the wing. He was considered too little (i think he's only like 120lbs 55kg) to play in the Prem, however I thought he played really well for Man City on loan last year as he was the only player on the squad that provided any excitement and pace in last year's City team. Arguably Rangers 2nd best player (Hutton 1st) until he got hurt this year.

He has his minuses: he did get busted for DUI twice at PSV. Plus he doesn't defend.

Can we afford him? Yes but he'd cost alot more than 700k now however if Peanut left/leaves he'd fit in well on the squad provided he didn't get hurt again.

Oguchi Onyewu (Age 25) CB Standard Liege Belgium - A big (6'4" 2M) CB. Was arguably considered the best American player about 18 months ago (I thought he was) and was linked to Chelsea last year. NUFC won the rights for his services SL loaned him out to the Barcodes and became w/ Titus Bramble the worst CB partnership in the history of the Prem. The only highlight of his prem career was getting hip checked by Darren Bent into the front row of the crowd.

He gets unsettled and nervous against teams that play Prem style football and makes mistake after mistake against teams that come right at you. However, he is useful in some ways. He owns big physical strikers, and when he plays teams that pass the ball around and have a slow buildup (in which he has time to get back into position) he's very good. He's also deadly on corners/free kicks (maybe better than Lescott) and perhaps the US squads best goal scorer.

Can we afford him? yes but we don't want or need him, I think he could play well in Italy and Spain but he's not fit for the prem.

Oneywu could play in the Premier League but he'd defintely need an adjustment period. He didn't set the world alight on his loan to Newcastle but over time, he'd be a good player.

Beasley.

Well I've always rated him and thought he'd be a good player for us. He's a bit lightweight but out on the wing, you've got to be able to catch a player to barge 'em over and not too many can catch him.

He'd be a good addition to the squad. Hurt right now though. Knee.

Right Bill, Oneywu seems to have the frame and the athletism and he would be in for a shout for a Prem team. He has to develope still because I classify him as a poor mans Joey Yobo and makes some bonehead decisons occasionally.

Not sold on Convey at the moment at least not for us. I agree with Twellman being a little light weight but he seems to pop up at the right time. Still not what we need.

I'm afraid their is a vast chasim between MLS and the Prem as far as competition goes and young talent needs some time to blend into the knockout pace of the Prem.

Under the radar, but exactly what Everton need: Marvell Wynne. Right back for Toronto FC (and I'd hate us to lose him, but to Everton no problem). He's around 21, has played for the US team. Has a good touch, comfortable on the ball, and absolutely electric pace. Powerful lad as well.

I'd love to have mcbride back for a couple twilight years...

i think like sheringham he can go on for ages without his level dropping off because he seems such an intelligent player. He doesnt get all his performance from making use of his physical attributes (eg owen, carew). I think he'd make a great reserve striker to keep Yak and AJ on their toes and to throw on in the second half of games, or just to start when we want more of a physical presence up front and are playing 4-4-2.

He has seemed to make the most of limited service this year. Plus it appears that he didn't really lose anything from his knee injury.

Sounds good CT. Great name as well.

Can you imagine the chants

'We've got a home Wynne in our team,
we've got an away Wynne in our team,
we've got Marvell Wynne in our team,
we've got a Marvell in our team'

And if he ever became captain...............:)
