American players

Jozy is worth at least 8M GBP. Considering you might be able to sell him for twice as much in a few years.

How good is Altidore?

Adu only cost 2M€..1.4M£..

Altidore, Bradley and Howard are the only ones at the moment that I would pay money to watch. freddy adu was too over rated and could never live up to his billing of the new Pele.

Given that we are talking about Bradley and given that we need a rt. wing and Fulham players will up for sale here is my opinion of them (feel free to add or tell me I don't know what the f(*& I'm talking about):

Here's my opinion of the American outfielders:

Most Talented: Landon Donovan S, CM Age 26: - I don't think there are 10 footballers in the world who have the talent he does. No American is close not even Adu. Every now and then you see evidence of the immense talent he has (free kicks, runs in the box, the way he controls a 50 yard pass with a light touch etc.) However he hates football, gets by on his talent, and is perhaps the softest player in the world, if he receives one hard tackle its like he gets afraid of the ball (see 06 WC). NEXT.....

Can we afford him? Yes but we don't want him and he likes to hang on the beach and wouldn't want to come here anyway. If any European team picks him up he's a VDM waiting to happen.

Runner up: Freddy Adu LW,RW,S- Age 19: Arguably the best player in the U-20 WC (though in my opinion Agureo was better but by not too much) can beat anyone one-on-one in any league, throws out nasty crosses on the wing as well. However ego still gets in the way and he suffers from a bad case of Stevie G disease in which he really wants to play CM. In the middle of the park C-mids and CBs just gang up on him and easily knock him off the ball. If he would only STICK TO THE WING HE'D BE BETTER THAN WALCOTT!!!!!!! THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR YOU TO BE A RESERVE ON BENFICA WHILE AGUERO IS ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN SPAIN!!!

Can we get him if we want him? Benfica only paid 1M for him which was a steal because there is still a chance he could develop into a 15-20M rated player. Yes, I think he needs a manager like Moyes to set him straight plus I think he really wants to play in the Prem. However if he becomes as good as his talent he'll want to leave as soon as a bigger club puts in a bid.

The best American in 2012 will be I'm skeptical that Freddy Adu will ever live up to his talent so its.....

Joey Altidore CF age 18 or 19- as long as he doesn't go to Barca this year. Classic CF who stays in position and can score with his head and feet. He's not that good yet and needs to go to a lesser team 1st. I think he'd fit right in at Villa and a partnership of Gabby, Young and Joey would be the best 2 Brits and a Yank partnership since the Pretenders. On 2nd thought Villa is already pushing us and has lots of money, go to Barca Joey. I think he could be almost as good as Samuel Eto when he reaches his prime.

Can we afford him: If Kendrick has an extra 10-12M between his couch cushions yes.

Runners up: 2A. Michael Bradley (holding mid age 20) and 2B. Clint Dempsey Age 25. (RW can play some striker and Osman's position) - Once Dempsey gets used to the number of matches in the Prem he is going to be very very good. I think he could be as good as Cahill is. Dempsey may be 25 but American players don't play as much in college and MLS as European players do so there isn't too much milage on him and he hasn't really been coached yet.

I haven't seen Bradley in the land of Kuyt (20+ goals in the Dutch league) but in America he has improved from you're only on the team becasue your daddy is coach to holy s%^& damn you are good! Bradley hasn't been the offensive force for America that he is at Heeveeeneeernenennen. His manager on Heeveneren says that he's going to be a star if its worth anything. On Everton he could provide some much needed height to our squad and perhaps get a few of those balls which Cars skies into row Z on goal. He still has to improve his tackling and he needs a year of seasoning in the prem so if we do pick him up don't expect him to beat Carsley for a starting 11 position the 1st year.

Both players are also the hardest working players in the US side, are easily coachable and are always doing what it takes to get better.

Can we get them? Yes and both shouldn't cost too much though be might have to get in a bidding war for Bradley with Blackburn and maybe another team. Also, Im not sure that after selling Alves if Heveeerenennenen is cash strapped, plus they are in the running for a C-League spot so they may not be eager to sell.

If all these players turn out to be as good as advertised I think the US has a serious chance to win the 2018 WC.

Other Americans who would be good on Everton: I think McBride can come in as a cheap reserve striker and bang in a few goals like Duncan did at the end of his career. Plus with Cahill out no one on our team besides Lescott can get a head on the ball.

Here are some youtubes of the U-20 WC Bradley is in a bit of the 1st one:

US 2 Brasil 1. Altidore scores at 1:30 just watch the talent Adu has at 6:52 ON THE WING!!!

Here's another great goal at the U-20 WC NOTICE HE IS ON THE WING by Freddy.

Great post that (y)

Good but a raw talent still.

With a European club set up, he could improve by leaps and bounds in addition to playing against top drawer competition week in and week out.

He'll eventually be sold by MLS, it's just a matter of when.

I don't know how long his current contract has to run.

Eddie Johnson is the best American player for sure, he's so young and already good

No Eddie J isn't very good. Every once in a while you see glimpses that he could be a good player though. There is just something not there with his game. Maybe he just needs more experience though.

I know he just plays in the MLS and they are trying to bring him along slowly but its time to get Altidore in or its time to get McBride (who just left Fulham - I think he's going back to the MLS) back on the squad. The strike force was terrible. Did Josh Wolff even play?

Eddie Lewis looked like the best American on the pitch last night vs England. How did he not get any minutes on Derby Co? He was tearing up people on the wing.

I think I figured out the problem with Oneyeau. Big slower guys, he can mark anyone in the world. Little quick guys: not so good. Instead of putting a body on Defoe and rubbing him off the ball he'd try a sliding tackle or some finnese play, which in one instance almost broke Defoe's leg.

No offence mate, but you have to be smoking something if you believe that. EJ is a terrible player, who has only been able to show GLIMPSES of talent in MLS. Hasn't done it anywhere else, much less on the international stage. Like I said on another thread, every time I have seen Johnson play he has been DISMAL! The future is not Eddie Johnson.

We need to be bringing the youth through. The Bradley's and Altidores, who have the talent and can also produce on a more consistent basis.

If we continue to rely on EJ and Wolff, we are royally screwed.

Speaking of Altidore, a little birdy informed me that Villarreal's got a preliminary deal to snatch our beastly forward for 8-10 million dollars (~4-5mil pounds). Bout time we had an American in Spain, assuming this is true. Would be funny to see two American strikers starting for Villarreal, Altidore and Rossi. (y)

Got to see Altidore last Sat. night as NY Red Bull was here taking on Houston.

Boswell had Altidore in his hip pocket most of the night and might have only lost him once.

To be fair, Altidore really had no service of any kind and was on his own up front, especially as Juan Pablo Angel was out with a virus.

Good player though and great upside.

Same thing happened a few weeks ago at Toronto FC game. Angel was playing, the TFC defence kept them both completely quiet all night. I didn't see much to impress me, TBH - perhaps he had an off-day.

Announced tonight during the Spain vs. USA telecast the CF Villarreal have agreed to terms with MLS for Jozy Altidore. He still has yet to come to personal terms.

I didn't catch what the transfer fee was but my guess is that it was probably in the region of 10M to 12M USD so around 5M to 6M GBP.

We'll find out more soon.
