And Yet... Perspective

Feel like Europa would hinder progression in the league next year considering how badly injuries have affected us this year
Damn straight. Thursday night football can wait a while. Let the Reds have some of it. Not such as issue for them as their games will put back to whenever suits.

Perspective.

We are still, albeit, barely, in a battle for top 4, we have beat and matched the best teams in the league.

We can still claim a spot in Europe next season.

We still very much have something to play for, in May, things arent as bad as people would have you believe.
3 wins could get us Europa. 4 would gaurentee it imo

Nope it doesn't automatically make you dumb. It does mean you're definitely not that well rounded intelligence wise though, if you're over the age of 25 or not a student.
Rubbish . Intelligence is something you are born with .There are binmen and shop workers with Mensa membership .I feel you meant learned but you are too dumb to know the difference .
You might as well say if you live in Bootle you must be not very bright -see -ridiculous .

Which only serves to highlight how clueless most people actually are.

It's often people who have not achieved much academically who believe they have some 'football intelligence.'

Meet them all the time. They earn 8 quid an hour in Tesco but are absolute experts in football. They convince themselves that there's some deep critical and scientific element of football that they see and think they're highly intelligent.

Nope. Football is quite a simple game. Good PLAYers will PLAY good most of the time. See how that works? It's hardly rocket surgery (sic) is it?

Stop trying to convince yourself (not you) that it makes you intelligent and concentrate on supporting the team and getting the out of date bread into the bargain bin.
Hi mate, tell us more about your PhD in football fan psychology and self-identity.

Every game goes by, we have many of the following talking points.

"Pickford is a liability. Poor positioning, poor feet, too small, passing atrocious, arrogant and lacks concentration. Sell, if we can."

"Coleman is finished. Been a good servant, but he's not up to it any more. Needs replacing as a number 1 priority. Get [Insert name] in from [Insert League]."

"Keane/Mina/Holgate (delete as appropriate) is a liability, an accident waiting to happen. Need a proper Centre half who can play a high line. Sell."

"Gomes is a fraud. He needs binning. Does nothing and is an absolute bottle job. Sell."

"Sigurdsson is awful. Absolute ghost. He's had his 1 good game every 3 months has he? Bin."

"Davies is sh*te. Absolute myth. Worst player to ever wear the shirt. What is the point in him. More bothered about fashion than football. Bin"

"Delph... LOL"

"Gbam-injured"

"Iwobi is useless. Biggest waste of money we've ever spent. What does he do? What is his position? Sell."

"Berna... Nope."

"Richarlison does my head in. Not good enough. Sulks too much. First touch is terrible, shooting is worse. Attitude stinks. I'd sell for whatever we can get."

"DCL is not good enough. Only scores tap ins. 20 goals isn't that good when you think about it. He could've scored 60. We can do better. Sell."

"King. Who?"

And yet...

Ancelotti is still a failure for somehow dragging anything out of this absolute horror show of a squad. Especially that midfield.

We basically have Godfrey, Digne, Allan, Doucoure and James who are (somewhat) free from Criticism. All 5 are Ancelotti/Brands picks and 4 of them joined a week before the season started. Only Godfrey has been available for more than 75% of our games, and the rest have been missing at various overlapping points through this weird, bullsh*t season.

Has it been perfect ? Absolutely not. But we've had some good moments.

There is still an outside possibility of Europe, with a squad that I would genuinely struggle to compare favourably with any other team in the top 10.

Its a long term project, and it's gonna take time, but honestly, have a bit of pause when you hammer the manager for not being good enough, and have a bit of patience. Because as frustrating as it is when we blow opportunities the way we keep doing, it must be even more frustrating for the manager who is made to look a mug by them week in week out. And for the time being, there's not an awful lot he can do about it.

P. S. I am aware that a lot of those opinions, especially Pickford and the Ghost, are mine. I stand by them.
The key thing with the 5 players mentioned is that when they do play they are consistently good. Richarlson and Calvert Lewin also thrive with better support. A lot of the squad don’t even put in 1 good game in 5.

I could be miles off here but I get the feeling carlo is giving some players game time so we can justify some sort of fee if they are offloaded., eg. Iwobi. Bernard. Delph. Even Gomes.

I think he's giving some of them game time because there ain't many other options. Folk were raging about Delph on Sat, but it was him or Davies as a cm sub.

One thing to keep in mind in context of how well this season represents our progress - we have no idea how every team and player in the league are going to react once stadiums are full again (cross our fingers). We've been brilliant away and turd at home, but you would expect that to balance out once fans are back. I am hoping that the team will come raring back in home matches to offset any regression away.

Second is that we really don't know the profile of player that Carlo and Brands will be targeting this summer. My biggest takeaway from the second half of this season is that we need more speed, power and durability. I loved our signings from last summer, but now that we have Allan and James already in the squad, we need to go for the opposite, in terms of profile. They must be thrilled with how they've both played when available, but it's killed our momentum several times when they pick up injuries. I am very curious to see whether we go for a James like flashy signing or not. More Godfreys please. Athletic, powerful, and an ascending player. That will determine things way more than anything Carlo tells them to do on the pitch, because clearly it's not getting through to some of this lot.

To put it into perspective, any other season we would've beat the likes of Newcastle and Fulham at home but lost to Spurs and RS away. So ultimately we'd still be in or around the same points total, but the other teams we're challenging with now would be further ahead. It's frustrating we haven't been able to capitalise on progress made, but unfortunately that's football and all or most teams suffer with it.
We were fortunate to beat Arsenal last week, but unfortunate not to get a draw on the weekend, so in reality we're 1 point better off than what we could've been in those two fixtures. Once everyone has gotten over the weekend blues, we could easily pick out loads of fixtures this season were we should've lost but picked up points and vice versa should've got something, but got nothing. Sport is swings and roundabouts and we are were we are and that's were we deserve to be.

I can only hope that failures this season will be corrected for next season, like a baby learning to walk it needs to fall now and again (however the EFC baby is now an adult and still struggling!)

Think you're missing the £8 an hour point mate.

I'm not being arrogant mate. I could have picked many jobs to use as an example.

In my experience, it's quite often low achievers who spend their time trying to convince people of their vast football knowledge.

A bit like the typical cabbie.

I'm not calling these people dumb, it's just that they attach a level of intelligence to football understanding, that isn't really needed, because it's not a game that involves a huge amount of intelligence. I'm not saying they're not intelligent enough to speak about it. As I said, 'it's not rocket surgery'

Oh and I'm purposefully trying to be a knob. Don't care. Not trying to offend anybody.
