And Yet... Perspective

So, you're a chef. You've got really sharp knives; new, heavy bottomed pans; a marvellous food processor.

Unfortunately, your ingredients have come from the "Dodgy but might get away with it" aisle at Lidls.

Your results are going to be patchy at best.

The top chefs will still whip up something palatable and reasonably tasty even with poor ingredients.

West Hams squad is better? They have Lingard leading their line, who was literally a joke sometime ago.
Say what you want about Lingard, and whether or not you would have wanted us to sign him, but he has flourished at West Ham. 9 goals in 12 games is a brilliant return, and other than DCLs early season form, is better than anything the rest of our squad have managed. It's better than most of them are even capable of.

Tbh, agree with with most of that, but feel/ hope Pickford has turned a corner, easily mom last night, stopped us getting a hiding, his form lately has been immense. Realise now I've gone against the grain and will probably get a lot of grief, but so what whose arsed.
Pickford has improved a lot. He made a few great saves yesterday. I questioned his footwork for the winner, but realistically, I can't really blame him with the overall performance. The comment itself was more directed at the disconnect between the lack of belief in capability of our players and the expectation of what the manager is supposed achieve with them.

Stop pedalling this poor squad nonsense...the squad is as poor as the manager lets them be...
The squad is what it is. The manager tries to get something out of them. Ancelotti is diplomatic. He won't Bury people unnecessarily because it's not good for squad harmony, and he needs them to continue to turn up in hopes of getting anything out of them. But he's not a mug, and he will know what is needed.

If as you say he struggles to get a tune out of dross playing yesterdays system.
Why doesnt he go back to the system he stumbled on and got results with...The 4 Amigos across the back?
That worked.
We got wins and draws against decent teams, using, in theory, even less of what little bit quality we have.

I agree with this, we were at our most consistent with that formation. We switched to that to make up for the loss of Digne, and Godfrey has established himself now as 1st choice. It seems like he has tinkered with every possible combination to see which works best with both Godfrey and Digne in the side. Maybe it's worth reverting back and moving Digne further forward. Whatever he decides, the defence is woefully overexposed because of the lack of options in midfield and attack.

At the start of the season we were the entertainers now?

Perspective...

That was then, when we had a fully fit 1st choice squad to pick from and we were brimming with confidence. That's part of the problem.

Chefs I know would walk out of the kitchen!

Indeed,

But that doesn’t alrer the fact that a good chef could make you an edible and tasty meal with a tin of Pedigree Chum, a cabbage and sime Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme :)

Need another 4 high impact squad players and we’ve got something. RB/RW/CM/ST must be starting 11 or close to it (for ST) and we’ll have a very good starting 11 and a little bit of depth if we keep hold of some of the starters who should be back ups. Power and pace on the right side and a CM that can link play and we’ve got a formidable starting 11. Big summer and we’ll have the money to do it after Kean’s big sale, a few other outs players to raise additional cash, and a few off the wage bill.

I'm curious about this statement in the context of what you wrote before it. Do you mean our recruitment let us down? Or we should be rotating players more?

Undoubtedly Brands, must shoulder alot of blame for leaving massive holes in the squad . You could also point to the moves sanctioned by both Brands and 1 would assume Carlo over the departures of Kean, Walcott and too a lesser extent Gordon without any replacement is baffling. While the obvious argument is none were pulling any trees up, they all offer something through a long season especially Kean when Dom was out injured for awhile

Fair one. My suspicion is with Walcott and Kean is that they were properly unhappy so asked to go.

I don't think Carlo would want unhappy players around. But you're right, we could have done with more options upfront and wide. Walcott particularly was one of the few we had with genuine pace, admittedly counteracted by his tendencies to play the wrong pass.
