I can’t make up my mind what I want out of him. If he stars for us we get 2/3 rds of a season out of him and off he goes back to Barca. If he does ok ish but not brilliant we could get to buy him at a knock down price , with the usual Barca buy back clause, and then he hits his stride in his second season .

I hope he is fantastic.

A wonderful midfielder would give us a chance of an FA Cup win.

If he loves it here and plays great he will want to stay after a difficult experience in Barcelona. They already have a great side with the emerging Arthur in midfield.

Barca will not want him back no matter how well he does

Barca don't want him back. Worst that will happen is that they will try and auction him to the biggest bidder like they did with Mina. But Gomes seems the decent sort. If he does get his form back under Silva I'm pretty sure he'll want to stay and play under him. Plus he'll only have 2 years left on his contract next summer. They tried to offload him for E20m this year but had no takers.

Plus he will have a Portuguese manager and 2 Portuguese speaking Brazilians in the squad plus country roads as well
A little corner of Portugal in L4

I'd just like him to be fit and able to play.

I'd send him back if he is not fit by the end of the month.

..fitness is the key issue, especially glass hamstrings but this fella looks particularly classy. The lad has had to endure a tough few seasons at Barcelona and I agree with others that he looks to have a real smile on his face. If he can get into a rhythm and stay fit I’m sure he’ll be a major addition to the team. He’s quality in both feet, he’ll keep both wingers in the game and he’ll provide a passing dimension that no other player in the squad is capable of.

No doubt, he’s quality. No doubt, fitness is a concern.

How about Bojan? He had a great career at Barca, played for Milan and didn’t do it at Stoke.
Bojan did alright for stoke to be fair. He’s never been a goal scorer even when he was at Barcelona, but he was always a creative threat for stoke.

Gomes is undoubtedly a high quality player, you only need to look at his career stats to see that. He’s had a bit of a wobble and it’s not a given that he’ll be great for us. If he can regain his form and fitness though, he can be the best midfielder we’ve had for 10 years.
