Huh?

From the word go, all the players have praised his defensive work and work from set-pieces. Yes, we got off to a rocky start at the back and there are still a few lingering issues but to say he's 'blinded' to problems is wrong.

Roberto was blind and refused to address them. Silva will, at least, try addressing them.

1 goal conceded in 3 games
It’s a vast improvement on earlier in the season
With Coleman back and Mina to come in it might get even better
It’s when Gana plays well that we get the clean sheets as he breaks up opposition attacks very successfully
Hopefully Gomes is more tactically aware and able to to his defensive duties moreso than Davies who still has a lot to learn which is only to be expected due to his age

It's def cause for concern if we're heading for Gomes at 6. I don't think he's got the out and out defensive qualities for that position.
And it'd be my biggest concern with Silva - he's may just have too much of a reckless streak to him; he's a bit blinded to the defensive problems.
That may not be the case - we are only seeing the early stages of a work in progress. Addressing things in the right order is key and he might be starting to get it right. But there are enough examples to have doubts.

Its essential we find a player who is just as effective and comfortable defending in between the CBs as linking the play from defence to attack, whose reading of the play is as good or better without the ball as with it. Having this type of player is how you get to be more attacking, more confident.
Gana doesn't fit this either because for all the work he does, he's not good enough on the ball, and his attributes and mindset don't fit with him sitting as a back three, when needed.

Finding this type of player (Barrios maybe) can mean Bernard coming off the LW and into the midfield, with Rico moving back to his better position.
So for eg, Bernard, Barrios, Gomes in midfield becomes potentially very tasty, with Bernard (L) and Gomes (R) dictating the play in the half spaces.

The problem with this is what you do with Sig. Either you don't play with a 9 (in which case your relying on Bernard, Sig and Gomes to rotate through the position) or Sig is dropped for a 9.

He brought in three defenders. How is he "blinded"?

Not meant in absolute terms.
But he appears to be blinded, blinkered if you like at times - with the explanation given he is working on a lot of things atm, he can't address everything at once, work in progress, has to address things in order.
Personally, I'd start with defence all day long. But that what makes him an interesting character. He is taking risks.
This has seen us drop points - there's no doubt about that.
But it has also seen us progress, and yes he has started addressing things defensively, and it is paying off.
My point is, if he intends to play Gomes at 6, well, we're going to have major issues in defence.

..I started reading your post and immediately thought Barrios, then you mentioned him. We don’t truly know the team model as yet, but he might want a Barrios type with the discipline to sit and protect the back four, gain possession and give it to the playmakers.

Def if Gomes is going do his thing, and I'm hoping Silva thinks the same for Bernard, then they have to have a good holding mid behind them.

Would much rather see this type of formation (players used as example):
Bernard-------Gomes
----------Barrios--------
than
---------Sig------------
Gana-------Gomes
because we'll be much better in possession, able to control the tempo of the game, dictate the play more.

My original concern was, that Silva might actually play him at 6
like
--------Sig-------------OR--------Bernard---------Sig
Gomes--Davies--------------------------Gomes

But filter any Delefeou’s or Ramirez’s. We don’t have a bad record with Chelsea’s cast offs though, a 2/3 success rate isn’t to bad. I’m only going back trough recent history to be fair ha

That would make a good thread actually - who have we had the best cast offs from

Barca - Dealofeu, Mina, Gomes
Utd - Neville, Howard, Saha, Gibson
RS - Beardsley, Ablett, Watson, Sheedy
Arsenal - Walcott, Wright, Stephen Hughes

Any other clubs where we've took a couple from?

Played much deeper for us than where I've seen him for Barca/Valencia/Portugal.

It is the role we need him to play and he looks to have the skillset for it too. Simple, forward, passes that find the man.
