The rules are quite clear on a tackle from behind. 100% a red..
A tackle from behind which endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play. Acts of serious foul play are punishable by a red card.

Don't know why it's so hard to grasp for the contrarians.

Now that everyone has calmed down, and time has passed...

Can we please all understand that Son saw red mist and deliberately dived at Gomes (he originally chopped at Iwobi then sprinted to get Gomes)

He didn't mean to cause serious injury, just foul him - as soon as he saw the injury he realised it was a consequence of his actions, like a petulant child.

He got sent off at Bournouth for throwing the ball down and going for a player for a similar thing.

This media love for poor Son in is making me sick and I'd love to see someone involved at Everton condemning it and letting everyone know who the real victim is here.
I also think that the ref knew the situation with Son's retaliation and knew if he stayed another Everton player would be on his case .That might have made him change it to red as well.

The hypocrisy in here! For years, we've been banging on about having a "snide" in midfield. Someone to get stuck in and make it rough for the opposition. Someone to pick up tactical bookings. Different now is it?

I don't condone what has happened, but if we were 1 nil up in a must win game, we'd all be calling for the same tactical foul. No one wants to see a leg break, but unfortunately, it happens.

LOVE BIG YERRY'S SNIDE

Give him the armband next
Gomes does snide so well.
I’m enjoying him refining his snide game of giving away lots of little fouls. The top teams do this to perfection.
After having a few bevvies and watching the rs, I'm thinking one of the best cb in the prem him you know

Maguire cost United 90 and he's better than him, there's not many better cbs in the league currently not even arsed

Big dominant confident and loves a bit of snide, us blues love the snide, if you don't your wool
Not arsed, he’s snide, he gets fouled often, scores most of our goals.

I could quote these all day, but there are literally hundreds of posts akin to the above.

It was a HORROR tackle.

Since when did a snide tactical foul involve a reckless lunge??? No one has been able to answer that point....

He could have pushed him, pulled his shirt, clipped him or whatever he liked to take the booking for the team. But no. Instead he launched into a tackle where the ball was miles away because he lost his head.

What bothers me is the entitlement top 6 clubs have to think it's somehow "clever" to make tactical fouls. They're praised for it whilst teams lower down the table wouldn't be. Their players are then protected by the media ala Son, and given leniency by the referees. Thus Son has no reservations about a pointless tackle from behind, until he saw the consequences. It was the result of arrogance.

We've seen our players do the same though and applauded it as it showed apparent desire. There is no denying that football is fickle and full of hypocrisy. How many people lauded Mirallas' tackle on Suarez? In fact, a better question to ask would be, who wanted Mirallas to actually snap him? Answer honestly please.

It's not hypocritical at all, it's just people like you not being able to understand fairly simple points and twisting them into something else entirely. There are maybe one or two posts where people are really going in on Son, the rest are just saying a red card is justified and there's no need to feel sorry for him. It's really very straightforward, he made a deliberate foul which ended up with a player being seriously injured. It was unfortunate but he is ultimately responsible for it, and I expect the ban will be upheld because it wasn't an incorrect decision. I don't want him tarring and feathering, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect him to release a statement saying he's sorry and to serve the ban he's been given.
