if he didn't break his ankle, I can guarantee Gomes would have stood up and kicked off at him after that challenge. He was never getting the ball and it was intentional to take him out.

People are somehow getting hyperbole with him not meaning to break his leg and ignoring the fact he did intend to foul with no chance of getting the ball.

Like Son as a player, fine player, but that was a very poor challenge, with no chance of getting the ball and a little malicious in my view.
No way at all has he gone to injure him, but to get him back ...yes. lost a lot of respect for Spurs over appealing, Whitehouse tactics from Pochitino and their club. What's 3 matches for a bad tackle to probably a year out, if he ever recovers fully.

If it had have been the other way around and one of the media darlings teams player crocked, the press would be wall to wall vilification.

Nailed it. If the roles were reversed and it was Gomes who committed the same retaliatory challenge on Son he’d be absolutely vilified within the media.

It’s not a contact sport. It’s a ‘limited contact’ sport. That’s not pedantry, it’s key to the argument. It’s a sport where players do come into contact with each other, but deliberate contact is generally outlawed. Kicking people deliberately (which is what son did) is not within the rules, and is punishable with cards.

The hypocrisy in here! For years, we've been banging on about having a "snide" in midfield. Someone to get stuck in and make it rough for the opposition. Someone to pick up tactical bookings. Different now is it?

I don't condone what has happened, but if we were 1 nil up in a must win game, we'd all be calling for the same tactical foul. No one wants to see a leg break, but unfortunately, it happens.

Being a snide is getting in people's faces, moaning at the ref, kicking balls away to stop free kicks, body checks or shirt tugs to avoid counter attacks, winding the other players up

It’s premeditated retaliation that resulted in a serious injury,
deserves a red and an extended ban.

most people are remorseful when the mist clears and they realise they’ve assaulted somebody on live tv.

if he is let off, see how many players start crying after they’ve committed a foul to avoid the cards.

he should have a 3 match ban anyway for his simulation in the first half just like Niasse had all those years ago.
