I didn’t compare him to Schneiderlin. You’ve just made that up so only one of us is being weird. I just said if Schneiderlin played like he often does (and it is often, tonight might have been the worst but not by far) he’d get a lot more stick. He sometimes looks like he’s not trying, because he just fouls people rather than trying to run with them or whatever but people make excuses for him, like you are now.

Hiding is not about `not showing for the ball'.

We all know he has a high class touch and range of passing.

He hides because he doesn't take responsibility for dictating the game when it matters and he doesnt put his body on the line defensively. He is a big strong man, but plays like a young immature boy without the ball. Its a massive defeciency.

As our midfield lynchpin we look to him to keep us ticking. He was the very antithesis of that tonight.

Is his fitness still a concern, I wonder? he genuinely looked like he just didn't want to be on that pitch.

Yeah, had these concerns for awhile, goodison can be a harsh place for our footballers sometimes. He was all over the place and just got worse due to not staying focus.

Said it last season Gomes will be in trouble if Gana is not around, exactly what happen today, made worst by Schneiderlin trying his best to fix the game.

Gomes is never the type of player that could dynamically control the midfield and impose himself enough to influence the game. Tidy in possession and passing but everything else is average without possession.

Gomes being too easy to bypass and Schneiderlin inability to press or tackle were the biggest contributing factor to our horror show today.

On the other hand, everything slows down when either of them touches the ball. Counter attacking football, our most effective style, is completely non existent if we play both of them together.
