Not writing him off myself.

He’s had a horrendous injury and he’s playing alongside some of the worst midfielders I’ve ever seen
Have we considered that although yes the partners this year are bad he also wasn't exactly top class last year with probably the most perfect partner he could possibly have to cover for his deficiencies? I think we are missing this when we keep saying he needs someone better to help him.

I've always been a bit confused why he is so far back all the time. I think he'd be better more forward and have 1 or 2 behind him winning everything.
One of the great mysteries for me is why we never even once tried playing a three man midfield with Gueye as a single DM and the two ahead of him playing box to box. Both Barkley and Gomes would have benefitted I think and we never needed a second DM with Gana.

He may have had the perfect person to cover but he also had Siggy banging in 15 goals which he has like 2 this season. No threat to open some space on the field

Needing pace to make it in the PL is a complete myth. Juan Mata, David Silva, Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, Fernandinho all be huge successes amongst many others despite having no turn of pace. He's playing a role he can't play, a defensive midfielder, he's never played that before. Needs a good partner alongside him to allow him to push further forward.. think a 3 would suit him best.
I don't think putting a statue in a new place stops it being a statue. He's shown occasional flashes of his ability but can't sustain it. Most championship players have the ability to play the occasional top game.

Andre Gomes is not doing particularly well at the moment, but we have seen him do much better at times and the potential is certainly there for him to improve.

In the right conditions for him in midfield he could be excellent, but there is no certainty the manager will build his midfield to provide Gomes with this kind of platform.

At the moment I think we have a number of square plugs in round holes and some are doing better than others.

Sigurdsson at the moment, for instance, is being asked to play a role and in a position the I doubt he ever expected to play.... defensive wide player.

I believe we have to wait and see what formation the manager wants to play next season and which players he sees having a role to play.

I'm fairly sure we played with three across the midfield for parts of the Spurs game. He played in a five the previous game. The 2/3 thing is a throwaway comment, wishful thinking for someone who is playing garbage. Tom Davies doesn't get those allowances does he? Would Tom Davies be better in Man City's team? Probably. DOes that mean we should persevere with him? And he's probably produced the same as Gomes this season.
The pace thing is not necessarily how quick someone is in a running race. The players you mentioned, over their first yard or two, were very fast. They are nimble and get the ball out of their feet fast. The speed of thought, combined with the ability to move your feet very quickly is way faster than Gomes. He just seems to take ages to get his feet in the right position to make a pass.
I remember trying to play football at the age of 35, having not played for years. My feet were not doing what my brain was telling them to. It's like Gomes has this issue.

I like what he can do and he’s also the only player we have who can do the good stuff he brings to the floor. Only problem is that he doesn’t have anywhere near enough good games required from a central midfielder

Honestly man how the funk are ya'll turning on Gomes ffs.
