...Gomes is a fine footballer. If you’re a wide player you’d always think you’re in the game because Gomes has the ability to spread the ball left or right. I remember Ray Wilkins being called a crab, but he had a decent career here and abroad. Bracewell and Reid would win it and give it to Sheedy and Steven. Nobody complained.
As far as I’m concerned, Gomes‘ problems are more to do with his lack of mobility and pace. As I’ve said for an age, we have too many players with no powers of recovery. Gomes is one of those, he’s easy to go past and once your past him you’re away.
We don’t have another player with his passing range, it’s certainly why he never gets dropped but we desperately need energy in that area of the pitch. I wouldn’t be getting rid, his type of player is useful but we need energy if we’re going to progress.
