The agenda coming to the fore again. He offered far more than Sigurdsson when he came on and was more involved than Doucoure. But because he skied a shot from outside the box he's the biggest villain again. The comments in here are absolutely fuelled with hatred towards him - shocking but not surprising.

We were a much better team when he came on. Fact.

...he actually played further up the pitch than normal (something I was asking of Sigurdsson at Half-time). Perhaps he’s better being used as a substitute, that’s a couple of times he’s done better than starting.

Absolutely. He's never been a midfielder who sits deep, his best games for us have always come when he's more advanced. Should he have done better with his two shots? Yes. But in just over 20 mins he fashioned more opportunities than Sigurdsson had done in the previous hour - you wouldn't guess that based on the comments in here though.

He is an absolute joke of a player. 2 glaring misses aside which he didn't create, what did he offer ? Nothing is the answer

I'm sorry but using the benchmark of "he's better than Sigurdsson" isn't good enough. Neither of them are good enough for Everton. Gomes was better than Gylfi and was still poor. Both can be true. Not sure where the blind optimism is coming from that he could be gone in the summer when no one can afford him. He looks a useful 5th/6th choice central midfielder, sadly we probably won't have Europe to need such a player next season.

I'm really not a fan of him at all but I don't understand the criticism about last night. I mean he wasn't brilliant but he was perfectly fine, better than plenty of others.

He was better than Sigurdsson yesterday however neither are nowhere near good enough.

They'll both be here next season but unless it's the odd 15 minute cameo from the bench, if either of them start any more games, it will be more of the same.

He doesn't pass the ball well over any distance, he doesn't take players on, nor does he tackle with any great reliability. He is dreadful. Utterly dreadful.

"But he's better than Sigurdsson!" - Guess what? He isn't. Does that mean Siggy is good? No, he's just slightly less crap and actually weighs in with the odd goal or assist.

Just because Gomes was slightly less than horrible in a 30 minute sub appearance, it doesn't mean we shouldn't sell to the first bidder that comes along. Which will be nobody. Because he's crap.

He is by far the most handsome midfielder we have had in years. On the downside, when he missed those reasonable clear shooting chances against Villa, I wondered if he has any football attributes at all. At least Davis can throw in a tackle here and there. If some scientist merged the pair into one player we would have the handsomest best dressed midfielder in the league, but football wise there is not much worth hanging on to from either put together.

His handsomeness is unparalleled. If we kept him on the payroll just to gee up the dressing room with some well-timed moments of Blue Steel I'd have no complaints; he should just never ever kick a football for us again. Ever. Ever.

Maybe or better player further forward if Rodriguez isn't playing. One thing for certain, we could do with a midfielder who can actually shoot, we hardly score any from outside the box.

Totally correct, the paucity of goals from midfield is shocking.

....yep, but I’d like midfielders scoring from inside the box. We have nobody who regularly gets beyond our strikers or even hits the penalty area. We need a goal contribution from elsewhere.

A Tim Cahill and for all the money we've spent no one better than Arteta at centre mid.
