Remember when we were all desperate for him to sign permanently...
He is absolutely garbage.
I missed the entire game - but have a real soft spot for Gomes and always have.
Was he really that bad??
Moise Kean waving franticallyBad doesn't do gomes performance justice..he performed the worst a substitute has ever performance in the history of football
Embarrassing, like your mate that plays rugby filling in for a 6 a side game one weekBecause of his mistake for the first goal, we were scared of playing the ball to him when coming out from the back, resulting in Pickford having to hoof it. He didn’t look interested one bit. I know Allan was on a yellow but I’d have risked 10-15 minutes to just get a rhythm going in the 2nd half. It was effectively game over as soon as he came on. Someone of those fouls were ridiculous, especially the one he jumped to knee the fella in the back.
The issue is not necessarily manager churn. It is the fact that they are players undef contract and difficult to move on.Part of the reason for wasters like Gomes getting games is the constant churn of managers which is ultimately going to kill us. Garbage like Gomes, Iwobi, Holgate, Keane, Kenny etc keep getting given a “fresh start” by incoming managers. They see them run around in training a bit and say “everyone will get a chance to impress” etc completely ignoring the fact that the same group has seen off about 4 managers before them. It will be a major achievement for Lampard to keep this dross up and then it requires a major clear out in the Summer with the expectation that we will likely finish bottom half again next year. However, it needs doing. The players are simply not up to the required standard.
The issue Mick, as you later alluded to, is that it's more often not his day than it is. I don't think he has the pace, physical or mental presence for this level.I’ve been a big fan of Gomes, I think he’s decent player on his day which he has even showed this season either from the bench or recently against Brentford but we can’t rely on him- he’s too inconsistent and today was one of the worst halves of football I’ve seen from a midfielder.
I do think he was fouled for the first goal though.
That’s fair. It’s just the general frustration with seeing the same thing happen over and over. The fans know that this group of players just cannot be trusted as they are weak minded and just not technically up to it. I do feel sorry for Lampard but if we stay up, it is getting to the point where players like the aforementioned just need to be left out of next year’s squad and told to train with the kids even if they can’t be moved on, no matter how long they have left on their contracts. The issue is not necessarily manager churn. It is the fact that they are players undef contract and difficult to move on.
Gomes played because the CM options are Allan, VdB Gomes and Doucoure. They are what we have.
Recruitment has been tgd biggest problem over a long time.
