Remember when loads thought he was the new Arteta? *sigh*

Would have been lovely if he'd have turned out consistently good.

Has he actually gone? Best for all parties I think.

We’re the new Chelsea.

Look, my point is that hours ago, apparently he was happy to sit on his arse, not play and collect his wages. Now, it turns out that wasn't true. Mate, I'm not trying to defend ANY of his performances!!!!
Barkley is not Gomes. Different situation altogether. I think I've been pretty consistent on Gomes over the years - he was great on loan, offering him a big contract seemed like a good idea at the time, and it turned out it wasn't because he is in fact a limited footballer. It's a bad contract, no fault to him for signing it, he's entitled to the wages. It's just a bad contract. It happens. Even the best DoFs brick from time to time.

I agree that slating him for attitude turned out to be completely unfair. I do think that context matters - Bobble's word had been very good for a very long time. I'm not as quick to judge people for trusting a previously trustworthy source, so long as they update their beliefs when that changes. It would be like slating them for trusting Brian Williams before his word turned out to be no good, and more like slating them for trusting Cronkite has his turned out to be no good. If what happened helps people learn to ease off a bit, it's probably a good result all things considered.

Good luck Andre, moving to a different league is the best decision you could make. Absolutely no shame in moving as far better and more successful players than you have been overawed and eaten up by the physicality and pace of the premier league (I’m looking at you Veron). I hope you find your mojo again.

He'll get that little bit longer on the ball in France and it will suit him, I've always said that if he is given time and space he is a very gifted player. His problems with us began when he was first made permanent, he had been sussed out during his loan spell, teams knew that if they gave him time and space he would hurt them, so, most teams put him under pressure and he was unable to cope.

It's become the myth that he was great until his injury, but, that's really not the case, his effectiveness diminished after that first loan season. Good player playing in the wrong league.

Outrageous air-brushing there. When he arrived on loan he was a catalyst for us. Easily prem league quality. We all applauded when we took him on perm. He faded significantly after his horrific injury and has not been the same player since.

Deffo time to move him on, but very disingenuous to say he was never prem league quality.
I said he was an awful premier league footballer... I stand by that view. Would not have got in any other top half first 11 when he was playing... 'well'.
