Does Gana go to AFCON? Chuck in an injury/suspension to Duke and he may be needed.

I doubt Gomes gets much game time between now and January and is definitely no replacement for Gana. And as said previously I think Dyche will play Onyango ahead of him if given the choice. And if Gomes is really on 100k+ plus a week that is roughly 3mill till the end of the season. Even if the Turks pay 1mill it will be a good gain for FFP

Team Talk is hardly the most reliable of sources, but if Thelwell manages to get a fee of £5m for Gomes, that's an excellent piece of work. Will save another £5m on his wages as well.

As always, the devil is in the details. One wonders how much of his first-year wages we would have to eat to facilitate the transfer. Still better than nothing, if you start from Dyche's assumption that his value to the club right now is zero.

That's a flawed assumption. There are worse options to bring on chasing a one-goal deficit, but then we would have to hold the draw if we score. We are thin in midfield, and the puzzle starts to make sense if we pick up Xeka on a free. If Onana's the only real six as Gana drops off (assuming Dyche sees sense), backing him up seems wise and worth the swap for a bench attacking AM who doesn't make sense for the full 90. It also permits us to chase games by bringing Xeka on and pushing Onana forward to make runs, without kneecapping the defense the way Gomes would.

If we put it all together without breaking the bank, I would call it good work by Thelwell.

Annual Amortisation: 4.7 mill.

Annual wage: 5.8 mill.

Total Annual Cost: 10.5 mill

Final year of his contract so his book price is 4.7 mill, if we get 5 mill it’s 300k profit, but we save ourselves, 5.8 mill on wages for the year, overall we save/make 6.1 mill selling him for 5mill, i make it mate.
