Transfer Rumour Anthony Elanga

I don’t mind this for the right price. Seems a bit of a pace/blind alley merchant like Gray, but unlike Gray, it looks like he works hard, defends well, isn’t useless when the ball is in the air and most importantly, is at an age where he will likely improve.

And I’ve just watched a short clip of him, and he did this thing where he passed the ball and then immediately moved into space. Which is good to see.

The ‘why are we signing United cast offs’ shouts were only relevant when we were trying to break into the Top 4 under Moyes, now there is little to no chance we’d be able to buy a player good enough to play for a champions league team in the premier league so let’s look at who we actually signed

Howard - was our number one for years and was good until he played a bit too long and ruined his rep

Saha - excellent on his day, probably only bettered by Lukaku and Yakubu in terms of lethalness in my 25 or so years watching the blues (I’m 34 so shouldn’t count much before). If he was fit more often wouldn’t have left United - easily our first choice if he was here now

Neville - would be our starting left back right now and in his prime would also start in CDM for us right now too

Gibson - was class when fit but if he was more fit wouldn’t have left United

Keane - was signed from Burnley because he is good in a low block system. Obviously we then signed him and rarely played that way so he’s only looked good when we did… more a comment on our abysmal planning I think

Rooney - worth a go but he didn’t have the legs when he came back. Enjoyed him equalising at the kop end and a few gem moments like his 3rd against West Ham but not the best

Kanchelskis - bit of a reach going back this far but world class

Blomqvist - worth a punt but bad injury record and never got going

Cleverly - not good enough, not worth the hate he got though, he tried

Schneiderlin - despised this player, absolutely worth all the hate, absolute coward and could’ve been great if he had any kind of backbone

So overall those are some decent returns and the good outweighs the bad I think.

That can’t be true!!! I’ve heard of this, but thought it was a myth.
The senior squad members will soon put him in his place.

A loan deal for him isn’t bad and I’d like to see option to buy in that deal if we sell Gray think Elanga offers as much as him if not more. So hopefully move one on and get a younger version who’s likely to improve with games.

A loan clearly makes more sense with an option to buy.

He still has 3 years on his contract and United have a years extention option.

I think Dyche wants us to be an organised, hard to break down, quick, counter attacking side. The Brighton away game being the best example. Elanga defo fits into that with his pace

Seems to want to do exactly this.

Also some of the names are pre-Dyche so it seems like Thelwell also has a direct input on our dealings.

He's hardly kicked a ball. This gives the impression they've failed to secure gnonto and are moving down the list again.
Would still like to think they will be looking at another winger or two. Would prefer a loan with option to buy the lad, but think he is worth the risk if we can sell gray

If it was me...and I posted this a season or two ago (as did @Nymzee not long ago) I think a midfield diamond would be the better way forward.

We punt Gray and Iwobi and then we have: Onana, Gana, Garner, Doucoure, McNeil. Adding 2 more players (Wharton/Scott) and using the rest of the funds for centre forward would make alot more sense to me than spreading around wingers also.

What is the reason to sign him? He does nothing when playing with better squads than ours. 🤷

If we have moved on to Elanga, the only reasons will be, price and length of installments. I have no idea whether he's any good because he hardly ever plays to my memory.

Then who plays out on the right, is the wrong way to go. I still want money spent on a cf i think danjuma could be the winger/ cf on loan with us still looking for a dcl type. Maybe even young becomes backup outwide as the club get a lb. I would also want a cm maybe wharton even tho not had any strong links
