2021/22 Anthony Gordon

He was influential.

He tried to force things to make something happen. Some shots when passes may have been a better option. But he tried shooting when no one else did in the first half.

Boreham put 11 behind the ball, sat back and packed the penalty area. It needed someone to take players on, go past them and take shots. Gordon did that.

It was ok by me.
No, he failed in that, but as I’ve said to someone else, each to their own

He is a young player still learning, needs to be a bit more aware of what's around him, but that will come with time.
Didn’t help what was around him, some really slow sloppy play from the likes of Doucoure, Townsend. Rondons movement Wing backs didn’t get into the game enough.

Also he’s maybe trying to hard, feels he should be winning games on his own, which at just 21 he shouldn’t have to do that.

I understand that he is our youngster but I don’t understand what’s that hype around him , even yesterday first half he was poor , body language shows he could not bother eater, my seats it on that side and close to the pitch so it’s easy to notice those things , completely avoiding Myha , never using depth instead forcing passes in the middle and loosing a lot of balls , second half was better , using deph but again very selfish, inconsistent , like I donkey, shooder down and straight forward ..
What are benefit if we play him instead of Gray ? , he is not scoring , played every game and how many assist he has ? , I don’t say he is not good but he is far from amazing , if I have to choose Gray would be my first option , I hav feeling that vs Spurs he will be on bench

shut me now ….

He's got every chance of becoming a very good player, but, he really needs to work on getting his head up and making the right decisions as to when to try the shot, or, whether he has a better option on for a cross or a pass. He is becoming a little predictable at the moment, he will almost always take the shot on. That said, it's a small problem that can be worked on in training and I really think Anthony has the potential to become a top class player.

Townsend got an assist last night and was terrible. Gordon just turned 21, still Has a lot to learn but he’s the future not Townsend

And was praised by pep last week

I agree, but to be honest I don't even mind him taking the shots on, he just needs to get better at it. There were occasions yesterday when taking the shot wasn't necessarily the wrong option, he just didn't execute them well, and it's been a bit of a theme with him. I'm not trying to criticise because he's done really well but now that he's a fully fledged first teamer we need to treat him the same as we would anyone else, and it's fair to say that although his overall performances have been very good, for a key attacker his end product is often lacking at the moment.

once a couple of these speculative shots go in, he'll calm down, he will strike the ball rather than lash at it. He was the one who tried to up the pace int he first half, it was too slow, he could see it and tried to move it on faster. He did OK, albeit the end product was a bit Stuart Barlow

Utter tripe once again.

This is why we can't have nice things. Until Richarlison came on, Gordon was the only one trying to make things happen. He consistently tries to take games by the scruff of the neck and drag us forward when everyone around him is doddering about playing sideways or backwards. And he always looks for the return pass with sharp movement.

He shot a few too many times, but he realised later on in the game that it wasn't happening for him and started laying it off more. First name on the team sheet for me and the last player that deserves any criticism in this wretched season.

I wish we had 11 players with his attitude and courage. We wouldn't be in the position we are if we did.

He is a kid..... he has tremendous ability and last night his lack of maturity was evident but that's ok. He will learn from that - tried to force it and show the non leaguers what elite players look like.

Recall seeing Rooney playing similar vs Charlton in a game where Scott Parker looked the far better player........ go figure.
