Our situational awareness has always been our achilles heel. How often would we pass that shot up and the chance is gone? Good on Gordon to take that lucky or not. Lampard probably gave these guys a word on taking more chances from outside the box. Sometimes- shooting is the f’ing answer

Yes, I agree.

I’ve been campaigning on here for more shooting and shots from the team for a long time.

I don’t think he’s quite as electric as the wave of English wingers that have come through since the early 2000s but I think he’s got better in-game brains and a better strike of the ball than the likes or Walcott, SWP, Lennon etc. He can be a top player with time

Only just 21...Lampard loves him.

He'll be some player

When you think of where he was at the start of the season - just come back from a failed loan spell at Preston with many people questioning whether he was good enough for us - compared to where he is now, as one of the first names on Frank's team list, it's way beyond anyone's expectations, probably including his own.

Whether it was the previous management or just a realisation of his own, he's added something to his that I'd never seen from him before - hard work in abundance. It was that aspect that persuaded the previous manager to give him a run in the team, and has allowed his skill and flair to flourish. In his post-match interview Lampard mentioned his maturity, and that's something that has struck me whenever I've heard him speak, such as in the OS feature with Dobbin and Onyango. I think he'll be well aware he still has a lot to learn, especially his end product, but that maturity suggests we can look forward to him improving that aspect of his game in the next 12 months.

His first touch is what makes him stand out.

I agree with that. I always remember my dad, who coached at an academy would always say the two things that differentiated footballers were first touch and decision making. His 1st touch is great, and his decision making is good, not great yet but decent.

The run in the 2nd half, where he nearly sets up Richarlison was brilliant as well. He just holds off crossing for a split second and takes it past the defender. He's a joy to watch really and will only get better.

Lampard put him in the same category as Foden and Mount today.

I think he's right.

Put him in a better team* and he's going to do some real damage.

*Hopefully a better Everton team.

I saw Richard Keys liken him to Gerrard a few weeks back. I can't really stand the fella, but he is well surrounded by experienced football people. He looks a proper prospect and is very close to being first name on the teamsheet nowadays.
