This is the same for me. You need some end product to truly get excited over an attacking player.
He had end product in the youth teams and as soon as his development catches up with him he will get goals and assists. I think people are expectng far too much far too soon. He was stand out in a very poor side last season and took it in his stride.

Just for comparison Lampards first season at Chelsea 37 league games 5 goals.

Gordon 34 league games 4 goals.

Lampard also played in a far better side and a lot more minutes. And was 23yo compared to 20 with 4 seasons at west ham as a starter and over 140+ games in the division already played.

And we wonder why young players at Everton get slated way too soon.
Exactly

We won'tbe happy until we have ruined him and he's off

…posters say it as it is, his end product is his weakness in terms of goals & assists. It’s hardly ‘eating their words’ if he can make big improvements, everybody will be chuffed as we’ll have a top player on our hands.

Atm mate it's overating a weakness though - we hardly have the ball in terms of people providing for him decent chances - who does that? As for him providing - who for? None of our players hit the box, DCL was out or unfit all season, Richy as a 9 has awful movement inside the area.

Not sure how people are expecting him to have been producing much more thsn he dud when he was out if position most of the season too in terms of being on the right.

Judge his end product when he's not involved in his first proper season under the worst possible atmosphere and situation under FSW, when he's not playing for the team with the lowest possession statistics across the entirety of the top 5 leagues top flight teams. When he's actually playing his preferred position, when he has ANY creative player or Midfield goal threat in the team and when he actually has a CF whose ACTUALLY a proper CF playing.

He'll not even all of these but just a couple of them before you do the stupidity of saying 'no end product laa'

? ? ? ? ? ?

Everything about him is impressive for his age. Nobody knows how he'll develop - even if he doesn't kick on massively then he's got a decent career ahead of him, either for us or a smaller club.

The best thing for him would be staying here under Lampard and getting another season of regular first team football. If he goes to Spurs or somewhere like that, he'll get almost no game time. I'm sure he's got a good head on his shoulders, I can't see any way he'll be leaving.

People aren't wrong when they say he needs to improve his end product as there's nothing wrong with pointing that out. They're wrong though when they try to justify that as a reason to shift him on at the age of 20. If in a couple more seasons and playing in a better side he isn't improving in this area then that is the time to start thinking about that. Let's see him grow over the next season and become a very important player to us.

…I think the huge potential with Gordon is that he creates situations of promise with his own quality and physicality. He can spin in possession & go past the opposition at pace to create an opportunity that wasn’t there. That is real top potential.

He will realise that potential if he exploits the situations he creates. Last season he often failed to pick a teammate out when he had the opportunity & he often snatched at chances. The latter is a big surprise seeing the quality of goals he scored coming through the ranks, he’s on free-kicks because he strikes the ball cleanly but often over hits.

He genuinely could be something very special if he carries genuine goal threat. He needs to set himself double figure target this season. Hopefully if we’re not in relegation fight he’ll have more composure.

How many players were the finished product at 20?

Gordon still has areas to improve on but I see no reason as to why he can't improve on those areas

As a fan base we need to stop demanding a cull of every young player who isn't instantly prime Pele

….the exciting aspect with Gordon is that his areas of relative weakness were not apparent at youth levels. He’s even getting on the end of things and scoring at England U21 level.

I imagine He’s on free-kicks at Everton because he delivers in training. It all points to the fact he will progress.

The big boys will circle next season if he exploits the situations he creates.

Usually follows the same pattern as well

Young player plays one match and isn't amazing, so a certain type of online fan writes them off

That opinion is then locked in and will not be changed. Ever

Even good performances are viewed in a manner as to find reasons to criticise, because heaven forfend someone has to admit they were wrong about something on the internet

Gordon has been written off and his critics will do whatever they can to see that justified, because as far as they're concerned if he succeeds then they have failed, and that just won't do

We've been having the same sorts of arguments over DCL for years in his threads

Ultimately we get the club we deserve at the end of the day

This is it.

You can comment on a player regardless of age. His decision making wasn’t always the best last season but that can be learnt, what can’t is raw ability which he has loads of.
