Have we actually had it confirmed what the clauses are to trigger the £40m? I would bet a silly amount of money that there is nothing to do with trophies involved and it’s mainly appearance and goals based.

I think you're probably right but I also think the £40m figure is posturing from Levy. Dele wanted out and they wanted him to go.
Sticking a high fee into the deal, even if unlikely to be attained, helps Levy cling on to his tough negotiator reputation. When in reality we've potentially paid peanuts other than taking on his (significant) wages.

He's on a free if he goes the full Gbamin. Of course, there's no such thing as a free transfer since wages exist.
It will be interesting to see how the emergence of Gordon impacts the manager's willingness to select him. History suggests that his relationship with Lampard could deteriorate quickly if he rides pine. On the other hand, if we're obviously better in a 4-3-3 with Gray and Gordon out wide, the manager will do what he thinks is best for the team.
