2022/23 Anthony Gordon

Does anyone else thinks Gordon is not worth the hype? Average again
I must admit he was disappointing on Saturday. He's quick but seems to run into blind alleys and is either dispossessed, or gives the ball away, too often. I think if Newcastle offer £35-40 million for him it should be seriously considered.

I know Iwobi was the same but I always thought he'd come good for us. I'm just not so sure about Anthony

I find that so different to how i saw the game. He literally slalomed through Koulbaily and Silva - two apparently world class defenders- who could only but breath on the back of his neck, especially when he went to his natural role in the second half (hes not a centre forward), admittedly he was isolated - we all know the reasons there.

Was thinking to myself what a player we have.

Ive a lot of faith in the lad mate, i see a huge ceiling, i see penetration, i see taking a man on beating him, i see yards being made up, i see world class defenders struggle with him - the position he plays for us is a tough gig, many say he creates nothing - personally i think we lack a cutting edge, i mean who had to aim at yesterday, by the end two of their defenders had to come across to occupy him and shut him down when he was on the ball, he will benefit when/if we have more cutting edge, others to occupy defenders, another foil and frankly when the team look like they have someone who can score a goal.

Have absolute no doubt about this lad, ceiling is huge, i see it in young Patterson to - quality.

I also saw how that amounted to sweet f.a. regarding his productiveness or the result.

He's a footballer, not a runner.

Wouldn't agree with any of that mate, you have two world class defenders who struggled with him at the weekend - its a silly point about running, when hes dribbling and penetrating.

I always wonder about interpretation of productiveness and end product, people tend to look at goals and assists, they dont look at phases, movement the ball, systemically advancing the play to a different attacking phase, creating in the phase before - Pienaar is a case in point, Osman used to make up a ridiculous amount of yards to - that was never really acknowledged and underrated in my opinion. Being productive isnt just scoring or assisting or what written down on tranfermarket.

We're one of the worst attacking sides in the league, we were last year and we are so far this year - we all know the reasons we lack a focal point have dont for a year and half now, if young Anthony is going to score at the moment hes walking the ball into the net himself.

Not even one worry about the lad, i just have to sit back, because this lad is absolute quality.

I find people not being able to see quite bannanas to be honest. But hey, all opinion and agree to differ and all.

Hold on - struggled with what? He missed a header first half and then ran at them with little to no productivity - penetrating and then going sideways to do nothing, colour me amazed, did it last season as well (mostly - he also occasionally does have productivity). To go with no finishing and inaccurate passes or lack of concentration - I know he's young, but it's a moot point to say he's amazing or something.

I absolutely look at those things and he annoyingly loses the ball too often to actually do anything about it - that or the pass doesn't have the proper weight on it. McNeil's played like 3 longer range passes and they're in the paths of people, Gordon's just aren't like that; crosses are also very Coleman, as in "hit and hope".

I can see a player in there, but you're making him out to be prime Cristiano Ronaldo, when he's simply planets away in every area, or at least "rough". Would love for him to come true and for your words to be gospel, but so far - nah.

With all that said, he's still somehow one of our best players, but that's due to us being shambolic.

Both Silva and Kouli struggled with containing him with ball at feet running at them he got in behind a lot and penetrated. Also dont agree with the rest of your first paragraph, actually think he gies central to much and he should vary it bit. In terms of inaccurate passes, whose he aiming at, we lack a number 9, we lack a no 10, so hes left isolated waiting for Doucoure, Iwobi or the sven to come across. That context is important.

Second paragraph - dont really agree either, one or two examples of perhaps wrongly weighted passes but i wouldnt call it a feature of his game. Hes an infinitely better player then McNeill.

Not really arguing he's world class although i know you are hyperbowling to porlarise, im saying hes quality and his ceiling is high, he has the quality to become one of the best players in the league, certainly in our team if hes not already. That would be where i am at - without question. He has a very high ceiling. Things he does very few in the PL can do.

Ultimately i think hes very special, one of the best things to come out of our academy in a long time and we should feel very lucky and proud ot have him.

Like i say i dont have one doubt about this lad mate, time will prove it, he really excites me.

Agree to differ and all that.

Come on Newcastle, make us an offer we cant refuse! £40m and its a deal!

Given MGW has gone for similar, we should be demanding higher, and given Newcastle offered 50m for Maddisson we should be asking for more.

But if they make a crazy offer, then we should look very closely at it.
