How many times do Everton have to be in this position tho? Rooney just off the top of my head being one example where we develop and bring on and then these clubs swoop in and while at times it has helped us avoid all sorts of consequences, I hark to the the days when we sat at the top and who knows with sales like these it may one day happen again, recent history and inept owner and board tell me very differently tho!
This is where the big big sides have such a luxury. They let other clubs develop their own talent then make a call on whether they should stay or not. They also pick off the rest of the leagues talent too.

Total win win.

Nope. This is not just about one deal. This is as much about perception and not being a pushover with a big club trying to take our homegrown player.

Being strong in the transfer market and being prepared to walk away from the table is very important. We've happily overpaid on average players for years and then been terrible at selling the players we don't want. We need to start showing we are credible negotiators and will get top dollar for our players.
This is not going to make us better at selling the players we don't want.

Meanwhile we've gotten 80m for Rom, 50m for Stones, 30m for Digne, 30m for Fellaini, 50m for Richarlison. We're not really pushovers at all.

Based on which fees? Richarlison is a 25 year old good but not great player who hasn't improved in four seasons. 50m was extremely fair and to be perfectly honest if roles were swapped I'd honestly question what Everton were doing paying that much.

The same goes for this btw, there is just no reason to buy Gordon for 45m when plenty of similarly talented players exist. Just absolute madness that we've decided to participate in by not immediately looking to get the deal done.
My only argument on the "getting the deal" done bit is why bend over and let other clubs dry hump us because we are "little old Everton" yes we need the money but if its not invested we are in real danger this season.

Richy was a great attribute team wise at Everton, he may go on to be a greater attribute in a better side but we should have stuck for 60 IMO

He was absolute dog muck Sunday anytime the ball came near him but because Kane and Son can't or won't press he was useful for them. I'd not pay 60m for Shinji Okazaki but sometimes it is what a talented team needs.

And look where it has gotten us!

We need where possible to KEEP our best players not be duty bound to sell because we have to, it all comes down to absolute shambolic management of what was once a great club!

its soul destroying from a football perspective!

Everton Arent We and all that!

Yes it would be fine, but I've seen so many people incensed that we didn't accept the first bid from a Chelsea side who just spent 63 million on a decent left back. They obviously have no idea how negotiation works. Accepting the first bid is capitulation, not negotiation.

English players under 25 have always had a big premium in this league, so this isn't anything new. I'll be extremely surprised if we don't sell because that's where this looks to be going, but we need to squeeze every last penny out of them because their spending so far this summer has been a bit mad. They've set their own precedent, so they should be told to pay our valuation or goodbye, the deal is off.

It wasn't the selling that screwed us, it was the buying afterward.

I'm actually optimistic on that right now, McNeil and Onana are the only real money spent and even if they don't work out all the way they are the type of signing we should be making. Which is why I made the original post, just when it looks like we're turning the corner we go and do this.

hes arguably been our best player for a few seasons but the one game at Spurs turns him into dog turd, have a word fella.

We let one of the best players, albeit perhaps a lower bar than I personally am used to be poached for 50 million!

60 or higher would have been much nearer what was need to prise a Brazil Forward away from us!

50m would make him I think top 5 all time England u23 transfers

He was one of the best players on a team that barely scraped past relegation, it isn't the compliment you think it is.

This goes for Gordon as well.
