2022/23 Anthony Gordon

Same, I'd actually do exactly what west ham have done with Rice this and last season (not for sale).

In an isolated bubble removing any other factor is he worth 50m right now, no, but it's not isolated, I will guarantee that if he's sold it will have a massive effect on the spirit of the squad. Losing him and Richy same season rips the 'blue' heart out the team and that can't happen.

Never mind we've likely sold the new signings the idea of building a squad towards something, then bam, yeah we are selling our best young player btw.

Exactly my thinking mate.

Im honestly surprised by this thread. At what point did we think it was acceptable to be a no mark club selling our brightest hopes to Chelsea and Spurs. It’s not competing, it’s not building something, it just undermines any hope. At what point did our pride and expectations become so low that we feel panicked that we have to sell our future because” a big club” waved 50s. I’m shocked and just wonder how recent years have obliterated people pride.

The whole thing just strikes me as contradictory:

Evertonians in May:

“We need to sign young players, before they break out and become great players”

Evertonians in August:

“Sell him, he’s 21 and has no end product”.

This thread depresses me, the last few years has really done a job on a lot of our supporters.

Being thankful to Spurs and Chelsea for taking our hope and best players. GTF.

It’s mortifying.

Would I cut my nose off to spite my face here, absolultley, sometimes in life you have to stand up, if not you become a doormat, don’t be a doormat Everton.

Because we almost got relegated last season.

Our stock is at zero. Vultures will be circling our best players. We have to sell to buy. Every club knows our situation so this is not totally surprising.

We're completely irrelevant.

And we need to make a stand, we need to be the club we are.

Richarlison I can accept, he outgrew the clubs current position and put in his service - though we were done on his fee - poor deal.

Gordon is selling our future without giving it an opportunity - his time here is naturally far from done.

They are very different things to my mind.

If we are complicit with what you describe, it’s how we will be treated, just a drone for the CL clubs to pick and mix and put our best player on their bench and our best young player in their youth team - as say yourself being complicit makes us an irrelevance - who wants that….,

I honestly don’t know why the club waste money on a manger & DoF. Experts on here can forecast Anthony Gordon’s progress better than Tuchel & his team. I only come here to learn from these great minds.

Come to think of it, I know why. Our owners have proven to be as clueless as the whoppers on here.

He could become the new Rooney here. We'd still end up selling him. £50mill now or what £100mill later? Outcome is the same, he gets sold.

We've got no money at the moment so he gonna win things for us? Never say never but the odds say unlikely. Our future is building a squad to compete and climb the table to be a stable club in the top 8 of the division... basically go back to the Moyes era.

Gordon won't dictate that. His fee will. Either now or later.

Simply put, he should not go, he doesn't want to, the club don't 'need' to sell him and he's a vital part of Lampards plans.

We need look no further than our current manager to see how selling your best young players can hurt a lot more than it seems at the time.

Ferdinand, Lampard, Cole - West Ham ran properly could have truly built a very very good team if they hadn't cashed in in on 'too good offers to turn down'.

Chasing what looks like easy money often returns to bite the club doing it.

Similarly look at Chelsea cashing in on what seemed to be big profits on De Bruyne, Lukaku, Matic, Abraham etc.

…I think £50m is more than reasonable for a player of Gordon’s current ability. We can only predict where his potential will take him, he could be top notch or he could be decent. He’s more Rodwell than Rooney, he‘s probably not even Jeffers at this point.

Can we wait 2 seasons to discover the ceiling of his potential or are we best cashing in now & utilising monies to benefit our immediate needs?

We could gamble on him being very good if our position wasn’t so precarious, but Gordon is unlikely to keep us up this season whereas we might with 2 x £30m purchases. I’m in the sell camp & I like the lad.

You don’t try to keep a player who wants out.

I thought he wanted out?

Now I’m seeing people saying he wants to stay.

What’s changed? Nothing? Everything? Holy Wooooo! What is going on…?
