I’m clearly in a minority here. I wouldn’t sell. He’s still a kid, blistering pace, full of potential. Not physically fully developed yet, he’ll build & get stronger. Some don’t appear to see he’s been playing in front of a broken midfield & no striker.

I hope he realises his best chance of progression is here, where he starts every game, rather than Chelsea where he‘s unlikely to be a starter.

Get the midfield & striker sorted & we’ll see the best of him.
He has ability but he can't seem to do what he needs to do on match day. He constantly gets it wrong in the final 3rd and until he rectifies that then he is no better than the likes of Danny cadamarteri or franny Jeffers for me. And on that basis we should sell because we aren't in a position to hope on players, we need players who can do it for us now.

You think his off the ball movement is exceptional? Really?! I think it’s non-existent in the main.

Again though, when you continually use words like ‘exceptional’ to describe him you can’t really get funny about it when people say they’d quite like him to occasionally win the odd point fantasy football point.

His defensive work is exceptional though mate.

Look at his defensive numbers, he is generally top 10 percentile across the ball.

How else would you describe that?

I can understand @TheBigIguana point that they are not important, and probably agree. But they are very good.

Sometimes, I probably need to be clearer. By off the ball, I mean what he does defensively.

And for the record, I dont get funny about people wanting him to get more goals/assists. I want him to do that!

That's not where my criticism is being aimed at all. Its aimed at people calling him a disgrace, or not at championship standard etc. People are entitled to challenge that.

Well his defensive metrics are outstanding.
I dont think they are. He has fleeting glimpses of defensive tenacity. Other times he stands around out of position and watches things pass by him.

And to be quite frank, if he is basing his value to the team on a few lung busting chases after the ball, only to be blowing out his arse 2 mins later and either unable to keep up with our attacks, or hunched over in the box, hands on knees like a smoker when we have a corner, then he needs to change his priorities, because honestly, he offers next to nothing on the ball.

Agree with this like

He is promising and I honestly thought today is the best he's been in a while, but I still don't think he was more than a 6.5/10.

I think we should cash in but do think some of the criticism of him is harsh.

Just a couple of points.

Yes he was fine today. Solid, reasonable. The problem is people want such a description to be woeful. He wasnt. Maybe he was woeful for what people think is a 50m player, but the price tag isnt his problem/fault. You have to separate them.

As for his defensive work without the ball, its exceptional.

tbh though I don't think his movement is great either at all, when we attack.

Ok mate.

The metrics used to measure these things show him to be exceptional, compared to other players in his position.

I agree a 50m value cant be built on that, and also he needs to get fitter (which I've been saying for months). I was just pointing out, that his defensive attributes are exceptional.

Both things can be true he isn't as good as the inflated fee he is attracting but he is also one of more reliable performers in terms of being a tone setter and a spark even if he doesn't bring enough goals/assists, there's also far too much pressure on a twenty one year old kid to dig us out of the hole we are in due to years of financial mismanagement. If things were different he would be in and out of the team still while he progresses but we don't have that luxury. Ultimately if we get the 50m bid we have to sell to reinvest in that thin forward line.

Good lord. You watched the match today and gave that a 6.5 and best he's been in a while? His first half was truly hard to watch. Overall 3/10 for me
Yes I think it's the best he's played in a while.

He was poor in the opening two games of this season and in the last 5-6 of last season, bar maybe the Chelsea game.

So, yes.
