2022/23 Anthony Gordon

£60m is a frankly insane amount of money for this lad. If Everton can somehow snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in this deal I'll truly be impressed but I wouldn't put it past Kenwright and the rest of them. He'd rather watch an academy player put in 5/10 performances every week than to actually get a good performer in. Honestly if there's anyone at this stage against this deal then I'd suggest you need to have a chat with yourself.

This deal will more than likely reset the club's awful financial position for the most part, it's pure profit. We can actually spend the money we've got without fear of getting fined or docked points. £60m on Gordon, with £30m coming next year for Kean enables us to do whatever we want, all the while building a stadium. It absolutely saves the club and quite honestly it actually gives Lampard a good chance to show his own quality as a manager, he's being judged at the moment for a lot of things beyond his control, if he was able to get a full squad of his players then I have no doubt that he'd be a success, currently he's being judged on a mess that he can't avoid, very clear he wants a striker and we play better with a striker but he can't play Rondon for 90 minutes so he has to sacrifice on the pitch.

This is Rooney saving the club all over again, except instead of selling one of England's best ever players and saving the club we're selling a winger that'll in all likelihood become an average or good Premier League player, at best.

You can't use the cost of one player as a way to summarize the state of the entire window.

Just because Wolves highly valued Gibbs White doesn't mean we couldn't go and buy Terrier for 30m.
I don’t think people realise/appreciate how hyper inflated transfer values are when the deal is Premier League to Premier League

Until 1987 it did mean something, and it was applied in practice, though not enough to always win everything, it doesn't mean that. Since then it has been diluted, no argument from me on that. I think that while it can't apply to league position, it should have some resonance when we are planning to replace quality players with dross and crocks, which is sadly how I see this episode playing out.
It didn't though, we were crap for 15 or so years before 85. Every club intends to do well but in reality it's not that easy.

We should adopt Queens Parks motto "Playing for the sake of playing". Seems more apt.

That might be difficult as it seems Terrier, who is under contract until 2025, is not for sale. Maybe we should just keep Gordon.

60m is an obscene amount of money for the player Gordon is right now. Maybe in the long run it'll be seen as a bargain but can we realistically, a team that can't score goals (of which Gordon is part of the problem) turn down the kind of money that could completely transform our front line.
Granted there is a caveat here - it's 60m in the hands of a board who have consistently made the wrong decisions when it comes to transfers.
