Overseeing recruitment means he is in charge of recruitment. It that doesn't involve deciding what positions we need, then I give up.

I dont know whats going on behind the scenes - but I know what a DOFs job is therefore I can make a qualified assumption based off that evidence whereas overs are fuming over things with no substance.

I dont have to work at the club to know Kenwright isnt responsible for if the sausage rolls in the canteen are cold but some will sure try blame him !

Another who doesn't understand what a DOF does and doesn't do.

The only attacking player we were seriously linked with prior to Doms injury was Cornet who would have been Richys replacement out wide.

Only since Dom got injured have you seen us sounding oot natural CF's like Che Che, Maupay, a few lads from France etc.

Neither do you so what difference does that make. For starters (to pick up on something you said earlier) the academy has it's own director (Gareth Prosser) so it's not Thelwells area (as you suggested) You seem to think that Lampard tells Thelwell what he wants then so on, well it's Thelwell who sets the strategy for the first team (hence the 3 at the back) so he will know what he needs to achieve for HIS strategy, he is also Lampards boss mate and I don't see Frank lasting long if he was going round demanding this and that at the people above him.

A DOF does not sign players for random positions in the squad without the managers say so.

Its a complex role fellas but essentially it has the continuity element that all clubs need in place, so as @MikeH72 says, when the manager goes we get continuity but is basically one of the highest positions within the club, often dictating everything from academy set ups, to training and diet to transfers etc etc, used a s a middle man between manager and board to alleviate pressures on manager.

A massive cog in a well oiled machine with many many responsibilities and more important overall to the club than any manager, providing you have the right one in place,

Excellent. One of those that is a good move for all parties. The only bad thing is we forked out on McNeil before knowing anyone was going to give us a truck load of money for Gordon.

I am a bit disappointed that it looks like Gordon is about to leave. His end product isn’t great, but he has potential. Not that many of our players do. We have already sold Richarlison and not replaced him. We are a joke when it comes to getting things sorted. If Gordon leaves as well, we are fast running out of hope IMO. 50 or 60 million is a good price for the lad, but I have zero faith in us spending any fee we receive on decent players who make us better. And less faith in us doing it quickly! We nearly got relegated, but for some reason seem to think we are ok with a weakened attack ?
